The Little Melody is hosting a concert! I couldn't be more excited!
Who plans to participate? Don't be shy, now! It's not a competition. [ some casually confident laughter. ]
Given our unique circumstances — what was it they called us? Mirrorbound? — I expect a fine menagerie of styling. Do tell me your plans! ... if you're inclined to share, that is. Maintaining suspense for the audience is a natural desire for a performer, after all.
As for myself, I'm working out the finer details of my piece, but expect a fantastic, short operatic work, all new! Oh, but try to keep that information from anyone important. I could get in trouble.
Everyone else, be sure not to miss it! You can boast to your friends later about how you attended a performance by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart himself! Ahahaha!

I'll be performing too, though I'm still working out the finer details.

Truthfully, I was surprised there were singers trained for it. Prior to this, I believed this world was adverse to story-driven works completely.
Might I ask what you're working on? The composition, the story?

But did you say your name was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart? First meeting Ozymandius, now this?
no subject
You can just come down here to the music hall, I'm sure, but our good Miss Birkenwood likely won't give you a slot unless you have something to show at rehearsals.
voice.
The one and only!
And? Do you find it easier or more difficult to believe me after meeting the Great Pharaoh himself?
no subject
I'm not sure which situation is wilder. [ But given the current nebulous status of her relationship with said Pharoh... hm. ]
no subject
It's not so fantastical an idea, though. Just think of us as being a little stronger than your average mage-summoned familiar. [ "familiars" are part of common public lore, aren't they? even for mirrorbound folks. ]
no subject
What?
[ Guess what, Moz, Ozy did not give her the rundown, at all. ]
no subject
The Coven teaches us about Conjuration, right? The concept is the same. We're what they call Heroic Spirits from the past, and our ghost is summoned by skilled Mages to serve them. [ he carefully omits the deal about the holy grail war — no need to make things that complicated. ]
If you meet an old and famous figure like me or the pharaoh, there's a decent chance they're a Heroic Spirit. Don't ask me who summoned us here, though. I've no idea.
no subject
I see. And Ozymandius is one of those, as well? You're certain?
These sort of spirits, tools, familiars, require a certain amount of magical energy, to be sure. So it wouldn't be surprising that the same force that pulled folks like me through the mirrors also could pull you.
no subject
Let's see ... short brown hair? Gold-blue crook? Impossibly loud bass?
no subject
We met in a shared dream, right before the mirrors pulled us to this world.
no subject
I see... Well, it's almost certainly not my place to say but..
Uh, yeah! He is a Heroic Spirit. But you didn't hear that from me, okay? Promise?
[ any reason a servant wants to keep their nature or identity a secret is an understandable one, and he does not want to be on the receiving end of that man's royal wrath should he have accidentally undermined that. if class-advantage meant anything in this world, he'd be dead in an instant. ]
no subject
If you insist. It's not a problem, is it? Being a spirit in this world without a summoner to anchor you within it?
no subject
It would seem, since there's plenty of mana in the atmosphere for widespread use, that we Servants get our supply from the world itself. It's remarkable, but it took some getting used to.
I don't have access to my abilities, you see, as weak as they were. I'm sure more powerful Servants are struggling more than I have. [ in case, you know, she wanted to worry a bit at the aforementioned pharaoh. ]

I'm thinking a short comedy piece about a pompous witch who loses control of his powers. A punctilious man who gets his just desserts. We'll see how it transforms during rehearsals! But I plan to make full use of the light and illusion effects when he screws up his spells. [ there's some barely veiled, plainly excited laughter trailing after that. ]
It'll be a sensation!
no subject
I'm not too surprised there's singers. People love a good story, and music is the perfect vehicle for it.
It's nothing as grand as an opera, really. I've been pretty busy, so I'll be doing an instrumental rendition of a classic story from home.
no subject
Ah, so an opera even the uninitiated can understand! Thank you for thinking of us, Sir Mozart.
Have you cast your lead yet?
no subject
he also seemed like the type who wouldn't want to worry anyone, either. Maybe I should ask him about it.

no subject
[ he responds, as neutrally as he possibly can at first, to test the waters. he should be at least some parts careful about his potential (potential!) law-breaking. ]
no subject
I was not aware. To what purpose?
( he can interpret that question however he chooses. she is interested to see the choice. )

When I asked, the representative I spoke to became rather stubborn and vague, and I eventually had to drop the thing entirely. I was inquiring about starting my own theater, you see, as there are none around that aren't defunct, but that became a large issue.
[ it was a dreadful conversation. he's already lived a tiresome life of submitting to unreasonable government officials — so he quitted the interaction pretty early. ]
It wasn't until later that I discovered Parliament considers productions that incite high levels of emotion to be dangerous. [ you can hear it stark clear in his tone: he finds it all ridiculous. ]
no subject
( she sounds more thoughtful on the topic than particularly concerned by his stated intentions to flout the law. )
no subject
this is the one area he'll (attempt to) tread carefully, so as not to endanger his — or any of his worthy artistic brothers-in-arms' — current efforts to reinstate theater, should it turn out he was speaking to the very wrong woman. ]
What sort of incident are you imagining? Given the number of buildings, there must have been a respectable theater culture here. What could justify eliminating it, I wonder?
no subject
( dubious in tone, but she's having trouble picturing what danger is precisely posed by a local theatre production...bar those with which she is more familiar, )
Do not our many festivals here incite emotion? When we are leaping bonfires and dashing about mazes? Traditional festivals, though, I understand.
( are they both going to be so oblique they manage to communicate nothing at all to one another. stay tuned. )
no subject
[ so much for being cool about it. ]
A riot! That would make sense, wouldn't it? [ more than the actual reason does. ] Who knows what sorts of ways a skilled performer could sway an arrested theater, filled to every box?
Perhaps you've uncovered the difference. Between that and a festival, that is.
no subject
( perhaps this fellow, at a guess, but they're having a pleasantly neutral discussion of civics.
...somewhat coloured by his stated intention to flout the law, granted. she's prepared to believe of him that it might be for no more complicated reason than passion for the arts, but now the whole of the thing will bother her—what did justify such an injunction?
curiouser and curiouser. )
Well, they are neither my particular area of expertise and I should hesitate to speak as if I were an authority. I take it, if I should boast of witnessing your work, that you are? In opera?
no subject
it's a little difficult to suppress his deeper goal when his entire identity centers around him being a performer. and, well, his opening voice message gave that all away to begin with. that, of course, isn't the issue. neither is his own open surmising which he understands reads a tad suspicious.
no, what he really would like to keep covered is the trail leading to his friends, the ones in the know, that would certainly reveal itself if he told the hidden backstory which they confided in him.
still, flattering his ego like that is a fine way to loosen him up. ] Of course! In composition.
Knowing that, you'll forgive my state of indignation at this law.
Not to worry, however, for music halls — and consequently, Aurora Musicalis — appear untouched! They'll simply have to tide me over for now, it seems.
no subject
It has been some time since I appreciated music for its own sake, regardless. We did have a musician, but I suspect not one so talented. Not a composer, certainly.
no subject
[ guessing from her manner of speech she's from a century not totally unfamiliar from his own, and a clearly educated woman at that. ]
Ahaha, though, you flatter me! You ought to witness me play in person so you understand it well. [ the fact that he is very talented, that is. ]
no subject
But I would be delighted to appreciate your gifts in person.
no subject
You'll come, then? I'm honored! I'll give you a small taste of what's truly missing from this place.
Kindly look forward to it! — Oh, but, I apologize, I didn't quite catch your name.
no subject
( so warmly that it's almost easy to overlook how she must have somehow missed his first observation. )
Madame de Lamorraine. I look forward to bettering our acquaintance.
no subject
The concert will be [ (insert date) ] at the Little Melody music hall in the Entertainment District. If you should stick around afterwards, I'd be happy to speculate with you more in person.
[ he's teasing, clearly, about the true nature of their conversation. ] I'll know you when I hear you!
no subject
And I believe you will find me difficult to miss. ( a little wry. she sparkles, it's this whole thing now. )
