[ VOICE ] - dated before the first ship to Dorchacht

My name is Lux, and I have a favor to ask of a few of you.

A number of us will be traveling to Dorchacht to... smooth over some rough patches in our relationship with them. Say what you will about how they treat others—I have my own opinions, and that isn't necessarily something I wish to speak about here. That isn't the point of this. Talks are bound to be tense, and many of us will be going in blind.

I am looking for a few monsters to align with, who won't shy away from gathering information, by any means necessary. In exchange for this, I offer a temporary Bond, during our time there; and protection if things don't turn out as expected. I will do what I can to keep you safe while in Dorchacht.

I am also looking for a few Witches willing to come together to push for equal treatment of Monsters within Dorchacht. Neither city can afford a war; and while I have experience with this sort of situation, there is strength in numbers. We have the resources—and it only makes sense to gather as many in one place before attacking this problem.

This is asking a lot, I know, but I want to be prepared for anything. I doubt I am the only one. I will be leaving in a few days. I would prefer to have these discussions before then, either in person, or here. Thank you.

A pleasure to meet you, Madam Lux. Color me most interested. I am eager to gather all the information we can, as apart of our diplomatic endeavors. As for any means necessary... well, I haven't encountered an iron lock that could keep me out. [he adjusts his glasses and unclasps the lock pick dangling there, hidden in plain sight as an ornament]

Pairing with someone who can crack through any magical barriers would cover my blind spots, in that regard.

[ The feed flickers before her smiling face comes into view. ]

I see. I'll admit that Abjuration isn't my strong suit, but I have been doing more reading since the last shared dream. Although, I don't plan to be out on the streets myself.

[ She pauses, tilting her head quizzically. ]

And please, just Lux is fine. And you are..?

Oh, hello there. I'm glad to hear from you again. I hope you're doing better than the last time we spoke.

[ She hears the hesitation in his voice and empathizes. ]

It's not ideal, but we need to be willing to look after one another while we are there. But I'm curious what this "something else" might be.

[ As her face comes into view, she offers out a smooth, solemn smile. ]

I'm glad. It's a relief knowing that I have your support. I was worried that people might think I'm overstepping.

I think, right now, we should focus on what each one of us wants to bring to the negotiation table. Have you given this any thought at all?

Any means necessary, huh?

Yes. But I trust that anyone who I work with understands that extreme acts of violence are not included in this.

And that they know how to be discreet

[ so - that's a yes. sort of. consider his behavior, he's a little surprised by her open friendliness, sincere or not. anyway! ]

The resistance's runes. From my understanding, the Witches here have been studying it. Are you familiar with that spell yet?

I think that's the best any of us could hope for.

[ Lux pauses after his question. ]

More or less, yes, but I'm not confident I could recreate it without a visual guide. Why do you ask?

Despite what I told you about me, I'm pretty good at being discreet.

[ ... Interesting. She takes a moment to respond. ]

Is that so? I would have to see it to believe it.

Because I need one inscribed.

[ flatly. ]

From how I understand it, with that compulsion charm they have in place, any Monster without one is at a greater risk.

[ Then immediately shoots back a filtered message just to him. ]

When will you be back today? There are some things we should talk about.

[ She pauses once again. Ah. That may be manageable—and if she can't do it, she can find someone who can. ]

Do you have anything that you wear regularly? Or something that could be concealed?

I'd like it tattooed.

[ go big or go home, apparently. ]

But if that is outside your skillset, then I'm sure I can find something.

[ That's... extreme. Effective, to be sure. But Veiled Woman help her, this is not the sort of assistance she intended to offer. The pause she takes is longer than the last. ]

...I'm fairly certain something like this would be frowned upon by both Covens.

[ Please don't ask a teenager to be your magic tattoo artist, Viren. ]

[ ... he's going to. quietly move this to private ]

I have seen it done. ... But, as I said, I can find something else to inscribe if that is something you won't do.

[ but because he is curious as to her meaning: ]

Why would it be frowned upon? [ did he successfully hide his disdain for that? probably not. ]

[He had... definitely presumed her to be older, based on her manner of speaking. No matter though, Everett has a healthy respect for the young. That, and his culture having often looked to women as leaders, means he lacks any condescension in his tone. Everett is ever the gentleman.]

Sir Everett Vaughan, diplomatic ambassador of the Springtide Clan. Just Everett is fine for me, in turn. Well met. [he would need to shake her hand, first they meet in person... he makes mental note]

As a monster, I shall not be doing anything too desperate. [well, probably. Or if he will be, he shouldn't say as much.]

The city would look less than kindly upon any trespasses I make. However, I'm not against taking risks, if they are well founded. [give him a good lead and he'll go for it, but he doesn't go breaking in places on impulse...]

[ ...Ah. This time, she doesn't hesitate. She genuinely needs to know in order to proceed. ]

Here, or where you're from?

[ The question sounds conversational, but she's a bit unsettled by his tone. ]

[ a good thing he's using voice; that's met with a narrowing of his eyes, his frown deepening to a grimace, before the intensity of his expression subsides again. he does briefly wonder if she's a mage back home, as well. ]

Here, is what I meant.

[ Her eyebrows raise slightly at his lofty introduction, and it takes some conscious effort for her not to answer in turn. No, that isn't necessary; and she would much rather hold on to a bit of anonymity for as long as possible. ]

Likewise. I'm curious about this clan of yours, and your duty as an ambassador. It sounds like you do as much negotiation with people as you do with their belongings.

[ Cheeky. Lux glides over that comment with poise and grace. ]

I hope we won't need to resort to using that particular skill set, but i could see where it would be useful.

[Very cheeky! It draws a somewhat bashful chuckle from Everett, defending himself without taking it too seriously. He's used to a base level of distrust... the fact that hasn't been the case often, if at all so far, is really odd for him to experience. The Springtide are not looked upon well... he's used to an uphill battle]

I hold little value for possessions, good lady! I can't say I've stolen away with anything that wasn't knowledge. [he'll explain himself a little further, since it is an odd thing to bring up and offer so readily]

The skill was one I picked up as an explorer. My intention is always to learn what's being kept behind locked doors, nothing more. I offer that skill forward, in the pursuit of knowledge.

Not at all. I think a lot of us have been feeling the same way you have.

[They've all been thinking about this problem in their own way. Maybe their opinions didn't all match, but it's been important to most people in it's own way.]

I've been thinking about it a lot. For them, this is most likely the way they've been living for a long time. I'm not sure what kind of words might reach them. But I have to try. What I'd like to do is try to explain it in a logical way they might understand-- the benefits of changing their ways, what they can gain from working together instead of one working for another. And I want to show them that this way works. I think that as a group, we have an opportunity to lead by example. Seeing is believing, right?

I've not heard of anything like this being done in Aefenglom.

[ Her answer is definitive, but there's a very clear distinction. She can only speak to what she's seen, and she has faith that Witches here wouldn't employ such tactics.

Dorchacht and beyond, however... ]

Consider how that might look, if anyone from this city—Witch or Monster, mirrorbound or not—were found to have counterspells etched into their skin. Any room for negotiation would lost. I understand your concern, whether you believe it or not, but we cannot afford to come off as hostile or aggressive.
