audio; crawl out through the fallout

Name: The Lone Wanderer
Date: event on 11/20, late morning
Format: audio

[ Lex has been quiet for some time - busy for parts, sick for others. But the items spilling out of the mirrors this morning has stirred her out of bed, and the item she has received- well.

Well, it's worth saying something. ]

Did anyone- [ a pause, a cough; her voice is raspy from disuse ] -did anyone else get something... potentially hazardous?

[ Potentially. Ha. As Lex stares at the item in front of her, potentially seems incorrect. ]

I need to get rid of this, [ she mutters, and then the connection cuts. ]

((ooc: hi guys! my concussion is finally healing, so Lex and I are back in the swing of things! if you want to hit me up, send me a message either via pm, on plurk [plurk.com profile] gadgetsandgears, or discord gadgets#7461))

Drop it on Morgie? [ Okay, that's probably a joke ] Or into the sea?

[ Still sounds like something to keep it hidden, keep it safe. But since this is something from her world, something so powerful it must have been— ]

How it was stored, back in your world?

[ He's trying to remain that calm, soothing presence, though a bit of his agitation might slip by. ]
futhark: (hood; focused)

[personal profile] futhark 2019-11-21 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
So that's not an option.

[ Wait.

Wait.

He suddenly got an idea. Thanks, Nel. If she can store blades in her body then why not to make something similar— ]

How about stuffing it into a "bag of holding"? You know, magic— a miniature pocket dimension, it's technically separated from our normal space.

[ And who knows, maybe normal time too ]
futhark: (bah)

[personal profile] futhark 2019-11-21 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ideally? Nothing. Maybe we could torch the bag earlier to forever close access to that pocket but— [ That would be a waste, wouldn't it? Look, he's a realist. Maybe one day they will want to explode something far far away ]

We'd need to get hands-on several and do the testing first. If they work how I think they might. [ Make a smaller exploding thing, like runestone. See if it explodes (aka test the theory on the time freeze) and if it does, what effects does it have on ]

I apologize for jumping in. Caster, better put a bag of starch in there first and if no bit of it escapes we should be safe. Well, relatively safe. [Archer's voice lacks his usual sarcasm and flippancy, even if he sounds calm. He can feel the agitation through the Bond and reaches to his Bonded with 'I've got your back'. While he can't offer the same to Lex, hopefully Cú will do it.]

Lex, any safety regulations for transfer of this thing? Or for handling it. [As a guy whose last act of heroism was trying to stop a similar explosion Archer thinks that he understands the danger, and isn't going to shrug and do nothing.]
futhark: (disgruntled)

[personal profile] futhark 2019-11-22 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
You know I've dropped the Caster bit— [ Not really the best time to bring that on the table but— The magic of the Bonds. Man, this can get confusing. Caster pinches the bridge of his nose briefly, to steady himself— where he is and what can he give. See. cam be a stable presence instead of force of chaos... promise. ]

Look, I don't even have such a bag on me— but I can look into them. Buy one, try to figure out how to make one, whatever I can. It's an enchantment after all. I imagine it would require a bit more testing though.

I'm sure the Coven has something, or at least knows how to make it. Ask the students, Cú, they're the first to use it. [to keep the stuff they shouldn't have in their possessions. Look, he's been a student too, and knows that some things never change.]

Lex, have him enchant your gloves and clothes, Cú is very goot at it. [there's a hint of pride in his voice.] Meanwhile can you tell me what condition it's in?

[Sounds in the background suggest that he's moving some stuff, perhaps looking for something.]

Degraded— [odd note in Archer's voice suggests he's aware of danger.] Your world must be a desolate place.

[A breath. Focus, Emiya.]

I'm not sure how well it works since there's no radiation here. [he says rather dryly.] It's best to go to Coven's infirmary afterwards, just in case.

[ Celt first world problems: "the fuck is radiation"... aside for emission /slash/ transmission of energy, at least that much of the lingo he got. If they're both freaking out about it it means it must be dangerous, and that thing is the source.

He got it, it's okay ]

Not sure if I can counter the specific kind of energy we are talking about here— but I do know some protective wards. If its heat I got it covered, if something else... I will figure something out.

[ Time to be the one trying to calm everyone down. Projecting zen energy ]

Not to boast, but I'm good with figuring things out. I won't let you get hurt, you're not alone with this Lex.

[Gdi Hiccup. Archer's frown can almost be heard.]

Lead is about half as toxic as radiation is. Metal box may be enough— [a pause as something occurs to him.] Cú, is it possible to create a spell protecting the outside from everything contained inside, lets say inside a box? Locking it inside airtight box inscribed with runes on the outside should do the trick. Locking this box inside another airtight box for additional layer of security is always an option. [his voice turns a bit dry as he says it. Better to be safe than sorry etc.]

The sole source of radiation is so toxic it can kill you without a contact. It taints air, soil, water, and takes about fourty years to dissipate without a trace. [Archer sighs.] It's pure energy, similar to a thunder without the flash and sound.
futhark: (giving it some serious thought)

[personal profile] futhark 2019-11-27 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh shit, now they're both freaking out. ]

But they were able to help you, that's a start. [ Yeah, suddenly he remembers the part about the healers in their first meeting. She got a nearly lethal dose of that— ] I know it was long time ago, Lex, but if you remember any name, or something unique about those healers we could seek them out for advice.

[ So a plague... or more like a curse. Lingering and never going away. See, this is why it was easier back in ancient times. Curses could be lifted, but technology is forever. ]

Archer, how about one step at a time. [ It feels nice to have that faith put in him, no lie. But he's not a miracle worker, no matter how much work he puts, he's still amateur witch compared to others... which means yeah pulling some strings at Coven is definitely going to happen. Smile here, offer food there, chat and be pleasant, and so on. ] If that lead box is going to at least keep it safe for some time, that time can be used to test all the alternatives. I'll get see on how many bags of holding I can get my hands on.

[personal profile] boneofsword 2019-12-03 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
It's not what I mean, Lex. First and foremost lead is highly toxic during its production. It causes lead poisoning that isn't too far from radiation sickness. Symptoms may include blindness, hearing loss, insomnia, delirium, memory loss or hallucinations. But that's not the worst. [Archer pauses for a moment. He wishes there was some kind of safe solution already present. Surprisingly he knows a lot about radiation and can actually use it to protect others from possible mistakes.]

It's true that lead is used to shield from various kinds of radiation. Unfortunately in the case we're now dealing with such shielding will cause a secondary and even more dangerous radiation as a byproduct.

[personal profile] futhark 2019-12-04 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Sadly the most of it flies over Caster's head. Not that he mentally mutes it, just... accepts it's out of his area of expertise. If two out of three people know what they are dealing with, he doesn't need to be one of them. Just point him in the right direction. ]

At least humans can live on the surface— Sounds even worse than Cwyld. [ Because it means there was a time when people couldn't live on the surface because of these things ] I'm on my way to a shopping, see if I can get my hands on that bag— if I don't have enough cash on me, I'm putting it on your tab, Archer.

[ That's kind of mentioned as a joke, maybe to get a reaction and lighten the atmosphere... ]
futhark: (busted)

[personal profile] futhark 2019-12-04 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He's getting double freakout on his line, he is tryyyying, it's all fiiineee— only he's kind of... easily affected, and now joining the train ]

Because of those things your people couldn't live on the surface. Cwyld doesn't make surface uninhabitable, just dangerous.

[Whoops. Looks like someone's getting a double feedback and isn't best at keeping walls, so time to take a deep breath and calm down. Archer mentally kicks himself for not realizing sooner. He needs to stay calm and collected now for all of them.]

...let's not argue over semantics. I think we have two workable solutions so far, one with bag of holding, another with kind of spell I described. [he's trying to lighten the mood reminding that yes, they have a way to avert the worst disaster.

There's another question to reply to, tho.]

To be honest I'm not sure, Lex. My knowledge includes only power plant reactors, since it's what I've been dealing with. I can't be sure about other uses. [a sound when he runs hand through his hair.] Better to stay away from lead, both for us and those who mine and work with this metal.

[After all, lead had many different uses during the Victorian era - lead plumbing, lead paints, lead bullets and even makeup.]
