I have a question directed to the Earthlings who were brought here.

Before I came to this planet, my experience with humans was brief. As such, my knowledge of their culture is largely limited and something I have been working at understanding for some time now.

To get to the point: I am curious about human friendship rituals. Is handholding a common practice among friends?

And what about kissing?

[AHEM. Not lingering on that one for too long. Definitely asking for a friend and not because she’s been casually smooching her bond for awhile now and still they are acting like it means nothing. As you do.]

I only ask this because I have seen a lot of different behavior since I arrived here that is different from the culture I was raised in and do not wish to misinterpret the meanings. Thank you.

And I would certainly honor that request, my lady. But I didn't ask how you would respond in terms of actions or words.

I asked how you would feel. You'd ask me to stop, and I want you to think of the why. Was it embarrassment? A lack of affection?

Worry not about my own feelings for the moment. You'd not hurt me by saying you do not feel for me in such a way. As I said, in my culture, such things are rather casual.

[How she feels? There’s an embarrassingly long pause as she stares at the screen. It’s not that she’s never considered her own feelings before in a great many different things but she’s always been a little more driven by the big picture. Raised to consider the needs of the many over her own. How she feels was secondhand.

I suppose I am not comfortable kissing someone who I do not feel close to. Even if it was not romantic I think I would want it to be important to both of us.

But even so, if the person who has your lips respects you, they will respect those feelings. Speak those feelings to them.
