I am looking for a stag, who may or may not be a faun. I haven't yet encountered any intelligent animals here who are not shapeshifted, but mayhap I have missed some.
Completely white.
May have had fire related nightmares recently. Unfortunately I have no name or title to offer for this being.
Theoretically the city isn't being overrun by white deer, but if there's more than one and you have not within the last fortnight to month or so, dealt with terrier sized hyenas, I do not mean you.

Who's asking?
[And why?]

Do you intend to set more?
no subject
Yes, if and when the situation calls for it. As of this moment, I have no situation that would require setting ablaze the wilds.
You are not the one I seek.
no subject
Happily, though, I can warn him.

For what purpose?

I intend to finish what the flames did not and eat him, of course. Why else would I be announcing myself and my intentions publicly?

Here I expected that you wished to show some gratitude ... easier to envision.

It's not a matter of tastiness, it's a matter of he escaped me. You know what they say about the one who got away.
Gratitude is expecting a bit much given the situation.

That certainly answered the question of whether a certain masked and robed presumed-Dragon from last month's nightmare would be Mirrorbound.
And now that all of Myr's Bonded have gotten in on the act--two publicly, one privately--it definitely behooves the white Faun himself to say something.]
Messere, if you're intending to eat me, I'm afraid I must protest. [It's said teasingly because Myr does not want to contemplate what the conversation with Viren is if it's not a joke.]
STILL TEXT.. FOR THE MOMENT
Does written communication trouble you?
[It's possible. Maybe deer just CAN'T TYPE. Never mind that Myr's blind, he's not aware of that yet.]
no subject
it's totally that deer can't type]You could say that. Can't read or write it, I'm afraid--I'm blind outside the F--in the waking world.
[Said so easily.] But if it's your preference, the watches do read to me and take dictation, though they're not as good at either as a person.
no subject
A pity. There had been little sign of such trouble in the dream. I can tolerate its other functions for the time being.
[As if it's a great inconvenience, at that. But right on to business - and not addressing whether or not he intends to eat Myr, notably.]
Pray entertain me a moment. The place where the amalgamation struck you, the forelimb. Has its effects followed you into the waking? It would feel ... as spreading numbness, the skin growing hard and unyielding. Less like armor and more perhaps very thick hide.
no subject
[There is, logically, no reason why he shouldn't be maimed and blind when dreaming as well. But he wasn't, and he still thanks the Maker for it every time he remembers to. Like right now.
Good to know this really is the same fellow. Well--good and disturbing both, given Myr hasn't forgotten how many of those hyenas they'd encountered died.]
And not beyond the first night after waking from that nightmare. We'd been warned we'd carry our wounds with us this time, but I'd a healer see to it. Nothing like what you've described has happened, thank the Maker. [It sounded, in its way, like something like the Blight. He shudders at the thought, fur fluffing out.] ...What would have happened? If it had come over with me?
no subject
[Unfortunate. But it did suggest that it was true, and Myr was not in fact a deer after all. If that changed, the rest might as well. A faun, then. Another mortal.]
It would have ... in time, consumed you. Rendered you a thoughtless, wordless creature purely of the light, which exists only to spread the infection and bring stillness and death. In this place, I do not think a cure could be devised, and it would have been a great kindness to end your life while you still have a mind, before you could inflict it on your kith and kin and drag them into the unending day with you.
[The explanation is utterly sober - if he's lying, then he's doing a very good job of it.]
All elements have such a capacity, though the specific effects vary. I do not regret it did not follow you here.
un: cherrypit
It's hard to take this whole thing seriously, and they can't see this man's target as actually being in any sort of significant danger. If he truly meant harm, why announce it to literally everyone?]
Are you planning on cooking him or eating him raw?
one day he'll make his own actual username
Unfortunately Lahabrea feels obligated to see the ruse through, even if he has no intention of reaching its hypothetical bloody conclusion. Ew.]
Cooked, of course. I've no desire to take my chances with parasites, and raw is best left for certain cuts of fish.
no subject
But that's good, at least, I'm sure whoever it is would appreciate being made into something tasty.
no subject
I must however decline venison tartare. It's simply not an appealing thought.
no subject
I would thank you to kill me in that case, [as men were said to kill their loved ones who'd contracted the Blight, if they could,] though I imagine eating me after would be out of the question.
All elements, though--they spread like the Blight where you're from? [That's...horrible. He doesn't like thinking about that.]
--And, forgive me for not introducing myself. I'm Myr Shivana. [They hadn't had time in the nightmarescape! And if he doesn't stop and give his name now they'll likely go off onto tangents and never introduce themselves. He's done that before too often.]
no subject
Suit yourself, but you'll have a lot of meat if you change your mind.
no subject
I will be certain to share should I decide on a different road.
no subject
[As reassuring as that is! Myr can be certain he's not stealthily harboring the light in unexpected and dangerous ways.]
Ordinarily the world and its caretakers see to it that the balance is not disrupted to a degree significant enough for such problems to arise on a grand scale. I do not know what the Blight is in this context, but there may be similarities, if things were allowed to go awry.
[Which is explicitly what Elidibus is supposed to be doing, while the rest of them run around unbalancing everything they can - make sure it never goes too far.
Sometimes they mess up. And then the Void happens. And nearly a light Void.]
Matters have been fairly distracting. I am Lahabrea. Mayhap I should have questioned what to call you after the inferno, but it is a bit late now.
no subject
The spread of a dreadful disease, messere, and the awful things that carry it. Not unlike the Cwyld they've got here, though those infected with the taint can't be cured of it. It's death or turning into darkspawn and joining the Blight.
Lahabrea, then. It's a pleasure to have your name--and all's forgiven for the oversight. We were busy, then. [There's a smile in Myr's voice.] And I s'pose I'd hoped the mirrors wouldn't snare you out of your world, after all that.
[Not an unmixed sentiment entirely for Lahabrea's own good, that, but...the man was here now, and even if he was worrying Myr's Bonded, he seems--all right enough.]
no subject
[But there's really no time for that these days, he has much to do and no time to do it in, though for now being trapped here prevented him from getting any of it done.]
Although inconvenient, being here is not without purpose. I have few regrets.
[It's a good thing too, by the mood Emet-Selch possessed every time they crossed paths.. someone needed to do something, and Elidibus wasn't on hand.]
The sentiment is ... appreciated however. For clarity's sake, you are a faun, yes?
no subject
[Nor study it in detail. Someday...]
I am a faun, [he affirms.] And I'm usually on two legs, not four, though I'm told that is something we can do even outside of dreams. I've not attempted it yet.
[Perhaps in no small part because he's not sure how a blindfold would work on a deer's head, and just...going around with his scars exposed was not a comfortable prospect.]
no subject
[Magecraft would be absolutely necessary! How else would they even get from one world to another?]
Though we, too, bow to the will of a God, it is not likely we hail the same being. As unfortunate as that might be, for His blessings would be a great boon even to mortals. You should attempt it, albeit in a trusted location. Mayhap your vision will return to you in that other shape, as it had in the dream.
[His tone suggests he finds this unlikely, but it doesn't hurt to find out.. so long as the finding out is done in a secure location where a blind deer can't hurt himself much. It's a courtesy he might not otherwise extend - either the prodding to find out or suggestions towards safety..
..But there's a deeply ingrained compulsion to return politeness with politeness, and Myr has yet to ever say or do anything he found sufficiently irritating.]
no subject
What are you, some type of Monster...? A Witch? Do you even know, considering that you must be new, here?
no subject
I fear I have vastly overestimated again exactly how common 'common sense' truly is.
no subject
But, yes, no matter - I don't doubt my capabilities for handling you.
no subject
It seems I have overestimated intelligence as well.
Were you more capable of spotting what is right before you I might actually have cause for concern.
no subject
He'll put a pin in that idea for after he's answered some other questions about the mirrors, and what exactly crosses them.]
I have heard it's easier on the full moons, and that's... [He counts under his breath across the intervals of his ragged sleep schedule.] ...two more days, I think. Might be worth a try, though I doubt I'll get my eyes back.
[His voice is wistful. It's a nice idea.]
And I much doubt we've the same gods, though I imagine the Maker could have many names if He wished it. Will you tell me of yours, messere?
no subject
But I don't not appreciate that you should drop it the moment you might face potential repercussions for the misunderstanding you caused. So, thank you.
no subject
[And .. no further follow-up. Huh.]
no subject
That would inevitably change.]
Are there not also greater risks during the full moon?
[Not to him, he's just fine. But everyone else! Trying something new might be unwise given that particular problem..]
I have no reasons to keep Him a secret, though I am disinclined to speak too closely of divinities in such an open forum. In better circumstances I would welcome the possibility of debate, but the quality of cleverness in those who have already responded has left me unimpressed. Mayhap somewhere else, if you've the time and inclination.
no subject
[And if the magic works better then!! It only makes sense to accept that risk for the possible better outcome.
He breathes out a small, huffing laugh at that.]
You have put the cat among the pigeons with my Bonded, that's true enough. Though I'd not discount them so lightly; they're both quite able in debate.
But--I'd be pleased to discuss it with you privately at a later date; the watches have a method for that, among their spells.
no subject
[Which isn't something he's going to be trying, hopefully those bond potions do NOT contain People. Even mortal ones. ]
Mm. Able at arguing mayhap, debate is another bird altogether. I needs must spend more time fiddling with this new toy, it has more capabilities than most mortal technology can manage. It's almost worthy of praise.
[Which practically is praise coming from Lahabrea.]
When there is a bit of time, I will have to attempt such a private conversation then! I am eager to know what my God and yours may share in common.
no subject
And, [there is a small smile in his voice,] I think most of us are better at arguing than debate when it's something we've strong emotion over. Like cannibalism.
You've got things like the watches where you're from? [Curious, curious deer.] We hadn't the like; they're all new to me.
[Or, well. Had been, a year ago. He's gotten used to them, by and large. It was like having a slightly dull Tranquil to take things down for him, without all the associated guilt that would have caused.]
It will be my pleasure to discuss it, messere. I'll await hearing from you.
no subject
Unfortunate that they might be so disturbed by offhand commentary, in a place where the caution against certain potions is not its ingredients but its efficacy. Truly, living here must be a trial.
[And the matter of certain monster part spell components, but that hasn't arisen yet where he has heard of it. Honestly, witch blood was bad enough, and it left him terribly curious as to whether volunteers supplied it or if weaker mages were simply farmed.]
There were a myriad similar things in the heyday of Allag, and some of their innovations linger. More common today are 'linkpearls'. There comes a point in many civilizations allowed to linger where such things grow ever more common; if yours has not reached it yet, in likelihood it will with the passing of time.
