How is death viewed in the world you come from?

[Now there's a question. Mogget pauses a moment before he continues, just to let it sink in.]

In the Old Kingdom, when one dies, their soul moves over into a different realm. There they traverse nine gates along a river until finally passing on. I understand that this isn't the norm outside of my home world.

[Not close to it, in fact.]

So, indulge me, if you would.

It's kind of a weird question.

It's simple, yeah. But it's kind of weird to ask about that kind of thing.

( That's fair, but it's morbid. )

... It's not something my Master often discussed with us, or... something my friends and I talked about. In the end, no one can be entirely certain of what happens, in the end.

Depends on how you die. Obviously.

Depends what god you follow. I've heard a lot of pretty stories about other planes and all that, but I never thought much about what happens when you die besides knowing I wasn't gonna live long. Least not til lately.

It varies from time, place, and person. My people had an idea how that worked for them, but then it turns out, sometimes you get to be an exception.

Which of the stories sounds better?

Is that the belief held by everybody in your world? In my world, the belief depends on the culture. Some people believe we go to a better or worse place, depending on our actions. Some people believe we're reborn. Some believe there's nothing after death. Is there some proof that makes the whole world believe the same thing?

The usual cycle of any living creature on reaching its journey's end is the return of their aether to its source.

As with anything there are exceptions, however! A great will, some driving desire or lingering attachment may conspire to trap or cause the aether to remain in the mortal plane.

[He sounds good natured and pleasant. Perhaps in a good mood?]

Huh.

Sounds pleasant. Gates and a river into a different realm? Another adventure, just waiting ahead?

Hm...

You first.

[brat. but also, what did he expect? there's no way Hazel's just going to jump into listing every single possible death and post-death action in her own world without a little direction first. not for free, anyway.]

You could've picked somewhere to start, dude. Like what were you hoping for, me just doing down the list? Fucking drowning's not the same in one country as the other even, it's all fucked up and complicated.

To be a fucking pain in the ass, obviously.

[you're a cat, you should know this.]

It depends on that and the place you die and the place the person who killed you'd from, if it applies. All those regional beliefs you get are all true but only where they originated, basically. It's a pain in the ass.
