How is death viewed in the world you come from?

[Now there's a question. Mogget pauses a moment before he continues, just to let it sink in.]

In the Old Kingdom, when one dies, their soul moves over into a different realm. There they traverse nine gates along a river until finally passing on. I understand that this isn't the norm outside of my home world.

[Not close to it, in fact.]

How interesting. What I said isn't a matter of faith but what I know to be true as a matter of fact.

[He pauses, thinking a moment.]

That so many worlds have no idea of what happens when they die is intriguing.

I didn't know it was possible for someone to know what happened after death, but... each world can be so unique from one another.

At the same time -- the fact that so many people don't know only shows how world can be similar to others, too.

True enough. [Mogget is finding that more worlds don't know what comes after death than do... at least as a matter of certainty.]

Would you want to know?

... I'm not so sure. If only because I don't want a bad ending to await those that are important to me.

[The way he says that does nothing to hide the implication that he gleaned something from her answer that perhaps she didn't intend to say.]

Fear of the unknown is understandable, if often futile.

Well... Everyone wants a happy ending for the people they care about.

What makes you think that the ending isn't going to be a happy one?

[lightblooming]

It's not that specifically, but... we don't know what ending we'll have either -- whether it'll be happy or not.

[themogget]

I suppose I can see how not knowing might be preferable, but I would think it would be more beneficial to focus on being happy while you're alive, not in what comes after.
