Hey everybody, this is- uh, this is Hiccup. [That nasally voice sounds bright today, but like he's not entirely used to talking over these watches. It still feels like he's chatting to an inanimate object somehow, even though he knows other people will be able to hear this, because he hasn't used it much up to this date.] I think I'm starting to get used to being here, sort of. It's been an adjustment. And, you know, everything seems fine a lot of the time, but I'm sure we've all figured out from those dreams by now that- that this world is dangerous, too.

So, uh, I wanted to make an offer. I'm a blacksmith back home, and I finally finished setting up my forge. It's- you know, it's not fancy, but it's good enough to start working in. If anybody wants to bring scrap metal by, I'd be happy to make things out of it for you, no charge. Well, no charge unless I have to buy other materials. Weapons, armor, household objects, just about anything. I know a few things about leatherworking and general construction, too, and I can fireproof anything you'd like, but I have to charge for that because of what it involves.

And, hey, if any other smiths or crafters want to come by and borrow the space, that's great too.

My forge is right next to Keith's and my house just past the slums, barely into the woods, we call it Wilder's Edge- or, I call it Wilder's Edge, he wanted to just call it "Keith's and Hiccup's shack in the woods" but that's way too long to put on a map- [Can you hear the excessive hand gesturing in this speech?] -but anyway! If you don't want to come out this far by yourself, I can pick you up from the city, it's not a problem!

We just didn't want to stay in the Haven. It's- you know, it didn't sit right, how they "acquired" those houses for us. Plus, it's... a lot closer to what we're both used to. It's more practical for us.

It's not that dangerous as long as you aren't living alone and don't go out too far, and Keith and I have Toothless and Kosmo with us. The land he found is clean, no Cwyld, and we both keep an eye on things to make sure nothing starts creeping in.

That... actually sounds nice. [ ...She says a bit wistfully. She may be a tech enthusiast but she also lived in a barn for like a year solid. She misses the constantly shifting natural splendor! ]

If there's really no sign of the Cwyld... Perhaps I'll make the trip out there some time. Admittedly I've been wanting to get out of the city some, but I've been told the kind of monster I'm changing into needs to be extra cautious of infection.

None on the path to and from the city, and since we're back and forth a lot, we can keep an eye on it. Here, I'll send you a copy of my map- [He attaches a photo of a hand-drawn map marking a specific path from the city to Wilders' Edge. It's not that far out, just past the slums where the poorest of Aefenglom live.]

Oh- do you mean, are you a Dragon? A, a person-dragon, I mean, like the ones that live here. They warned me about that too, for Toothless, but- as long as you stay on the path, it's alright, or you could just come with me after one of my magic lessons or something.

[ It's a kind offer, and it bolsters her mood significantly. They're speaking by audio message only but one could practically hear the dawning excitement in her words. ]

An acceptable and, dare I say sensible solution! And frankly I feel like a complete clod for not contacting you the moment I figured out what I was going to become. I get the sense I could learn quite a bit from both you and Toothless.

[ Like. She's not exactly sure what, but. Knowing a fellow mirrorbound who is also a dragon expert helps ease her anxieties a bit. ]

Probably! My friend Eren is a dragon too, and he and Toothless have this whole- weird... thing. I don't fully get it but they seem to? I guess it's maybe been some kind of help, even if they aren't the same kind of dragon. [They have this whole weird dragon greeting thing they do now, it's kind of cute. Kind of weird, but kind of cute.]

You're welcome out here any time, whether it's to see me or Toothless. Just- yeah, be careful. I'm not dumb enough to say it's totally safe, but our little area is safe enough for dragons so far.

Hm. I trust your word on that. [ Really! She does! ] There's something to be said for safety in numbers though, so... Maybe give me a call the next time you're at the coven for lessons?

[ SHE'S NOT SCARED! REALLY! ]

Sure, I'll let you know! I'm there most mornings. You can ride back with me and Toothless. [Because let's be honest, he doesn't walk anywhere other than to make sure the path is cleared still.]

[ Peridot pauses, letting that sink in a moment, and then makes a weird, kind of unseemly excited giggling noise. ]

That is an extremely exciting prospect and I am very much looking forward to it.
