Hey everybody, this is- uh, this is Hiccup. [That nasally voice sounds bright today, but like he's not entirely used to talking over these watches. It still feels like he's chatting to an inanimate object somehow, even though he knows other people will be able to hear this, because he hasn't used it much up to this date.] I think I'm starting to get used to being here, sort of. It's been an adjustment. And, you know, everything seems fine a lot of the time, but I'm sure we've all figured out from those dreams by now that- that this world is dangerous, too.

So, uh, I wanted to make an offer. I'm a blacksmith back home, and I finally finished setting up my forge. It's- you know, it's not fancy, but it's good enough to start working in. If anybody wants to bring scrap metal by, I'd be happy to make things out of it for you, no charge. Well, no charge unless I have to buy other materials. Weapons, armor, household objects, just about anything. I know a few things about leatherworking and general construction, too, and I can fireproof anything you'd like, but I have to charge for that because of what it involves.

And, hey, if any other smiths or crafters want to come by and borrow the space, that's great too.

My forge is right next to Keith's and my house just past the slums, barely into the woods, we call it Wilder's Edge- or, I call it Wilder's Edge, he wanted to just call it "Keith's and Hiccup's shack in the woods" but that's way too long to put on a map- [Can you hear the excessive hand gesturing in this speech?] -but anyway! If you don't want to come out this far by yourself, I can pick you up from the city, it's not a problem!

It's a pretty necessary skill back where I come from. You make your own stuff or you spend a lot of gold buying from traders. [And that's not convenient, being in the middle of nowhere on a frigid wet rock in the sea.]

I don't usually, vikings uh- we don't actually produce a lot of jewelry, you know? But I could manage small pieces if they weren't too intricate.

Right, that makes sense. Still, it's not something I can do, so I'm impressed.

[Da frick is a viking, Elliot thinks to himself, but that's probably not too important]

Oh, it doesn't have to be intricate. I'm thinking of a bracelet that can hold some small gemstones. It's mostly for magical purposes, so how it looks isn't that big a deal.

That shouldn't be too hard, especially if you don't expect a whole lot of decorative detail. I could cast something up if you provided the metal and the gemstones. What kind of enchantment did you plan to have put on it? I'm just curious, I've been- you know, dabbling, with things like that, but it seems like there are a ton of possibilities.

Great! I have the quartz, but I'll look into finding some metal for you.

Oh, are you a witch too? Well it's not exactly for one spell. You see, back home magic could be done by drawing energy from these special gems called Quartz. You had to use a device called an Orbment to help draw the energy out of the Quartz, so there was usually a delay, but it still worked pretty well!

When I got here, the Quartz and my Orbment's energy got drained. But I was thinking that since Quartz naturally store magic energy - why not use them as my own spell storage? That way I can stockpile spells ahead of time. And since the Quartz will have my energy in it, there shouldn't be a need to use the Orbment! I just need to have the Quartz on me and accessible, which is where the bracelet comes in.

Does that sound okay?

Stockpiling spells ahead of time... That's a really great idea, actually! If it works out, I'd love to know how you did it. [He's thinking that could really come in handy for himself, too. The general concept, at least.]

Anyway, if you've got a design in mind for the bracelet, I can start working on a mold.

[He goes quiet for a good five minutes, and then sends a photo of a handdrawn drawing of it. Please imagine it looking more handdrawn than what his player made in MS paint in two minutes]

Will that work? I can send measurements of the quartz sizes too.

Good luck with that! I've definitely, uh, had a few enchantment attempts go south on me so far. [To say the least. He's been practicing, but it only got harder after he enchanted his sword to light itself on fire on command.]

Yeah, that looks easy enough! The measurements would be helpful, then I can make a mock-up out of scrap metal without the quartz in it to see if it'll fit and everything.

Haha, oops. I hope none of them were painful. [may your fire spells go fine and not make you lose your eyebrows Hiccup]

Okay great! Well the 8 smaller quartz are 2 rege in diameter, and the larger one is about 4 rege.

[Ah yes. Another surprise joy of different worlds- measurements are not universal]

[He works with dragons, he's used to losing his eyebrows.] A few more so than others, but I think I'm making some progress so far.

[Pause.]

I think I might need either a picture with another object to scale or to take my own measurements, because I'm not sure what a... rege... is...

Oh...you don't? [A pause. Were reges not universal?] Wellll that makes things difficult...

Y-Yeah, hold on.

[Give him a moment to take a picture of two quartz sitting next to a cune coin. The smaller quartz is about the size of the coin, while the bigger one is a couple centimeters bigger. Basically, 2 centimeters and 4 centimeters respectively.]

Does that work?

Oh! Yeah, that's a lot clearer, thanks! We, uh, we don't really have those units of measurement where I'm from. Actually it's pretty difficult to make things at home without eyeing the person or thing it's supposed to fit on, most of our units of measurement are for- travel distance.

Oh really? Do your people travel a lot then?

I'd offer to teach you our system, but if it's not used in this world, it probably wouldn't do you much good.

When you're stuck on an island in the middle of nowhere, ten days south of freezing to death, you definitely tend to pick up sailing or dragon-flying as a hobby. [He laughs.]

Probably not! That's alright, I think I can manage. I can always make adjustments on the final piece if needed, but this is enough to get a rough prototype worked out.

[Okay wait, what the heck. No point in responding to everything else because one thing sure stands out to Elliot]

W-Wait, did you just say dragon-flying?! That's your hobby??

One of them. I enjoy cliff-diving too. [Look, riding dragons is really not a huge deal on Berk. They all do it. Well, now they do.] And dragon-racing is a big Berkian thing these days, everyone turns out to watch the races.

Are dragons that common there?? And um, able to be ridden without getting killed?

[Okay it's a little bit showing off. He's a daredevil adrenaline junkie who freefalls from thousands of feet in the air for fun and tries to pet wild dragons like people try to pet stray cats.]

Sure, there are hundreds of them where I come from. Thousands. And if you show respect to the dragon, the dragon will respect you. It's about a mutual partnership.

Wow...That's incredible.

Almost sounds like people describe horses. But with wings and fire.

Dragons are a lot better than horses, trust me. [He laughs, and Elliot can probably hear an answering rumble in the background. That'd be Toothless asserting his superiority.]

[Elliot laughs a little. ]

Haha, I don't ride horses, but I have too many horse loving friends to feel safe commenting on that one way or the other.

[He wants to avoid Horse rants next time he sees Jusis okay]
