Hey everybody, this is- uh, this is Hiccup. [That nasally voice sounds bright today, but like he's not entirely used to talking over these watches. It still feels like he's chatting to an inanimate object somehow, even though he knows other people will be able to hear this, because he hasn't used it much up to this date.] I think I'm starting to get used to being here, sort of. It's been an adjustment. And, you know, everything seems fine a lot of the time, but I'm sure we've all figured out from those dreams by now that- that this world is dangerous, too.

So, uh, I wanted to make an offer. I'm a blacksmith back home, and I finally finished setting up my forge. It's- you know, it's not fancy, but it's good enough to start working in. If anybody wants to bring scrap metal by, I'd be happy to make things out of it for you, no charge. Well, no charge unless I have to buy other materials. Weapons, armor, household objects, just about anything. I know a few things about leatherworking and general construction, too, and I can fireproof anything you'd like, but I have to charge for that because of what it involves.

And, hey, if any other smiths or crafters want to come by and borrow the space, that's great too.

My forge is right next to Keith's and my house just past the slums, barely into the woods, we call it Wilder's Edge- or, I call it Wilder's Edge, he wanted to just call it "Keith's and Hiccup's shack in the woods" but that's way too long to put on a map- [Can you hear the excessive hand gesturing in this speech?] -but anyway! If you don't want to come out this far by yourself, I can pick you up from the city, it's not a problem!

[He... might be able to, if he knew what those words meant and what a telescope was supposed to accomplish. He's built functional spyglasses before. He just doesn't know to associate the two concepts.]

A telescope! It's a series of lenses and/or mirrors within a cylinder (or series of cylinders) designed to increase viewing magnification *significantly*. Where I come from, we use these to get a closer look at the stars.

yes i've built those before! not for stars specifically but for seeing over long distances. the same concepts probably apply!

what do you want to look at stars for? are you planning on traveling somewhere? [He's used the sun and stars for navigation but that's about it for his astrology knowledge.]

Oh, I'm an astrology professor back home. And I've taken to studying the stars here, as well. Astral movements, the relationship between energies of different celestial bodies, they can provide a fascinating amount of information. They can even provide information about events yet to take place, or from far in the past, given the relationship between space and time.

Reading all of these can allow me to use astral energy in different ways here. Hopefully constructive ways. I'm eager to help out any way I can, and well since I've got no place teaching here, I can turn to my astrology experience to aid others, you know?

so you mean... divination, like the coven teaches, but using the stars? that's really interesting!

i'd definitely have to tweak my designs to get a spyglass strong enough to really get a good look at the stars, but i can try if you know where to get some good glass for the lenses.

There's a optician in town who may be able to help. They fixed my glasses when they got scratched up during the festival.
