[ at first, there's a shot of sky; then, there's a shot of a wall, and then there's peter sat on the wall — or more accurately, there's a shot of someone sat on the wall in what, in some universe, could be mistaken for a red and blue wrestling suit.

(it's not though, it's just your friendly neighborhood not-as-spidery spider-man.)

that is to say: the explanations (quote-unquote) they've received to date are somewhat lacking, and he's still kind of hoping there's an absolutely anyone he can point a finger at and go 'I KNEW IT' rather than have this remain an apparently fluke accident of the multiversal variety.

there's a quirk of his lips and he holds his hands up, palms facing outwards in vague gesture of: and so. ]

Skipping past the Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore and going straight to the yellow brick road and wizard combo was— ... not exactly life affirming, but it did make me wonder about my sartorial choices.

[ he lets that comment hang for a moment before continuing, attention shifting up to the sky for a count of three and then back in the direction of the watch. ]

I mean, I get it: dimensional travel is [ pause. ] Complex. Temperamental. Annoying. [ that's not entirely the word he means, but it's the word he's using (there could be kids listening). nevertheless: ] I've been there, done this, passed on the t-shirt because it belonged to a guy with a color scheme that makes me look ill and come out the other side. Right side? Home side. There's got to be a better way of putting that—. Wasn't really interested in a repeat. Do you know how many voicemails I'm going to go back to? Accusations of being Bigfoot?

[ he holds his hands up — exasperation, folks — and it's followed by another pause, and another a quirk of his features beneath his mask. it's punctuated by a shrug, and he almost manages to look sheepish. ]

—You know, that felt good to get off my chest. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I’d love to say this is the weirdest thing I’ve done in my life but it’s not, which basically brings me to this question:

Anyone got directions to the lost and found? I think I dropped something exit-right of Earth.

adorably optimistic; there's a huff of a laugh on peter's end before he responds. ] Sure. Even if there are some people I would definitely recommend lose who they are. A lot.

So— [ eyes the username; don't mispronounce this, parker—. ] Iramaat, right? Where are you from?

Iramaat, yes! [ He's managed it. Mostly. ]

I call it the Dreaming, but others call it the Kingdom of Fairies and still others simply call it the Hedge. Strange place, or so the mortals say. I always found it very comfortable.

You know, I'm not really sure what I was expecting when I asked that... [ because that means absolutely nothing to him. ] You're not mortal?

Oh, of course not! That sounds awfully inconvenient.

It works out pretty well most of the time. You know, for mortals. I haven't got any complaints.

You're going to get old and die. Sounds awful.

In the words of someone very wise: it's the circle of life.

Not for my kind, it isn't. We don't age and we don't die.

[ Well, unless someone destroys them. ]

[ there's a brief silence; this isn't the most cheerful of conversations, and the inevitable deaths of everyone he loves and cares about is particularly morbid and he'd really rather not think about that, especially—

—yeah, nope, not going to linger on that. ]

Did you know spiders have really short life cycles? Fortunately, I didn't inherit that trait, but it definitely put things into a slightly different perspective when I found out. [ found out, had a conversation with a spider. same thing. ] It's weird though, right? How different creatures have different existences, different experiences, different expectations... [ aka he doesn't want to live forever, but growing old would be pretty sweet, given his line of work. ] The eternal life thing isn't really my bag, but good for you guys though.

—But, uh, let's move on from the 'death is inevitable' conversation. Even if I kind of started it.

[ Well, Iramaat's cheerful about it. She doesn't particularly care one way or the other about how short or long mortal lives are. It's all the same to her and she's still sort of getting used to the idea that she might be mortal now that she's here. She doesn't have that ingrained sense of dread when she thinks about mortality and the march of entropy.

Which is kind of nice, honestly. ]

Well, if you'd like. I don't care much either way...

You say you didn't inherit a spider's short lifespan. Why would you inherit anything from them at all? I don't think I know this part of the story.
