01 [video]: the heart of the forest(?)
Name: Yako Katsuragi (un: katsuragi)
Date: May 25-ish
Format: Video
[ The young woman on the watch gives the camera a small smile, though her expression is also a touch uncharacteristically serious for those who’ve met her before. ]
First of all, for anyone who was badly affected by the full moons, I hope you’re feeling better now. If you need any medical attention or want to learn how to help keep others from going feral when you’re not Bonded to them, you should ask the Coven.
[ PSA done, she clears her throat, brushing her hair away from her face. ]
There’s something else I’d like to share. When we first came here, some people mentioned having a dream about being in a banquet in a forest. I had the same dream, too. I don’t know how much other people recall, but one of the the things I remember hearing while I was in it was the name of the place: Dewaint.
Anyway, I did a little looking into it, and it seems like I’ve found it. Or at least, um, something used to have that name.
[ That’s her cue to move, turning the watch to face ... a map. For those who’ve already seen a map of Geardagas, it will look pretty familiar, but it’s large — taking up most of a wall, and Yako has to take a few steps back to take it in its entirety — and it’s clearly old, preserved from being tampered with by a layer of glass. Yako continues speaking as she steps back in closer, panning her camera slowly as she points out areas of interest. ]
The librarians said this map is about five hundred years old. This is where Aefenglom is today, near the coast. And where Dewaint Forest was is...
[ She focuses on the dark spot towards the center of the map, right by the river (since she’s a little short, this takes a lot of standing on her toes, so the video goes a little wobbly before it straightens). The inscription scrawled over it bears a script similar to what might be seen in places around the Coven — and on the protection charms that were offered in the bonfire ceremony when they first arrived. Though the script might resemble Irish Ogden runes in form, for those who recognize such things, it’s clearly a different language. ]
There -- in the center of what The Wilde covers today.
[ Yako pauses, letting the camera linger. ]
To be honest, I’m not sure what this all means. I haven’t been able to find out much else about it, though some books said something about leylines passing through it and called it the heart of Geardagas. [ Although it’s a heart that most people seem to have forgotten. ] All I know is that it doesn't feel like a coincidence.
[ Spiel done, Yako turns the view back to herself. ]
I'm still trying to see what I can learn, but this is what I have right now. I thought other people might find this interesting too. I asked some people about this already, but if you have access to Parliament Records, the librarians and Miss Nessie think they might have more. So if you would like to help with that or with looking through some more books and papers, please let me know! If you’ve found anything related, I'd like to hear about it too.

In stories where people get spirited away like that ... usually mortals aren’t brought there as guests. They’re entertainment. Um, to be pranked or danced to death and that kind of thing. They said it was the first time meeting in a thousand years, but when I tried to find out more, I couldn’t get them to say much else.
no subject
[He's never heard any such stories, but he's not doubting her. If anything, he's a little impressed at her knowledge.]
Not everyone who was brought here is mortal, though.
no subject
[ His next statement, though, brings a questioning lilt to her voice. ]
Really? Like who?
no subject
I don't know if I should say who, but... there are people who came here with us who call themselves immortal. And people who died before and came back to life, too.
no subject
[ Especially where everyone else can hear it! ]
Still, it seems like coming here has taken away a lot of whatever powers people had before. [ Maybe their immortality too? Concerning! ] I didn't have anything myself, but ... ah.
[ She stops, like something's occurred to her. ]
no subject
Which is what he would have talked about next, except that Yako seems to be having some sort of realization.]
... What?
no subject
no subject
[That. Is his entire assessment of the situation. He's talked to supposedly-dead people on the network, but this is still different. He wants to ask who, of course, but after shutting down that same question before, he really can't do that.]
Dead... and still moving?
no subject
Actually, I'm not even sure she's here, since she hasn't moved since we arrived.
[ And before Konoe gets the wrong idea-- ]
I mean--! Not that she's a corpse or anything! She's a spirit.
no subject
And after that, he just has more questions.]
But... you know she hasn't moved?
[A spirit you can see? It's not impossible, but even so... if it's something you can see, and it hasn't moved...]
no subject
[ Yeah, she knows exactly how that sounds!!! ]
But her real body’s somewhere else. Right now, I can’t tell if she’s here and just asleep, or if she wasn’t taken along with me...
no subject
[What is he even supposed to say to that? He's a guy who's had four demons take the shape of snakes and crawl into his body, and he's still kind of freaked out at the thought of spirits possessing hair of all things. (What if they get in his tail!?)]
That... seems a long time to sleep.
[Then again, it may be normal for spirits?? He has no idea.]
if akane gets in konoe’s tail he’ll have one to rival dylas
HE'LL TAKE IT
[She's already dead, after all: there's little to fear, there. He hopes.]
... Maybe magic can create the right energy?
[Or that could be creepy forbidden magic, too close to resurrection, but...]
no subject
Miss Peridot said she'd look into it, before, but I never actually got around to asking her if she'd have the time.
no subject
Electricity magic exists in other worlds. It's probably possible here, too.
[Not that he knows the first thing about it, but he's doing what little he can to think of a plan with her.]
no subject
Guess I'll have to do research on that too...
[ Admittedly, it would be really handy to have Akane around to help her take notes and the like... Yako tends to follow her intuition where she can, but retaining details in her head, it's not easy. ]
If not that, then maybe some sort of enchantment? [ That perks her spirits up a little. Enchantment, now, that's a branch of magic she's more comfortable with. ]
no subject
[He really doesn't know batteries, but why not, really?]
It's not like you'd need to bring her back for good, right?
[Sure, that would be nice, but the main purpose here - for now - seems to be checking on the spirit to see if she's okay. That should be a lot more doable.]
no subject
To begin with, she doesn't even have a body here, so I'm not sure what there would be to, er, go back to.
no subject
But it's none of his business, anyway.]
If she possessed a braid of hair before, she could probably posses something else, too. [He says this like he has the first clue about how these things work - but that would make sense to him.] Actually, something else might be better, to get around.

Like a toy cart, or a doll.
[So creative, and yet he still goes with something tiny.]
no subject
Hm ... I'd have to look into that. But just finding a way to talk to her again would be a good place to start, I suppose.
no subject
Whether a spirit getting around by itself is a good thing to start with may be another discussion altogether.]
Yeah. At least you'll know for sure she's okay.
no subject
Yeah. [ A beat, her gaze looking distant but fond for a moment, before her focus shifts back to the watch and she gives him a bright (if slightly teasing) smile. ]
Thanks for the ideas, Konoe. Talking to you always helps me figure things out. Seems like you’re really becoming more of a Witch after all!
[ It’s not particularly due to any great intelligence on Konoe’s part, though, but the way he’s willing to listen. They’re both new to this, and it’s nice to have someone she can learn and grow with. ]
