[ The camera comes on and in it is Louis in front of Shinjiro's house. The front door is behind him in the frame. He has a hoodie that is definitely way too big for him, since he is swimming in it. It's not his. The hood is up and covering the top of his head and his ears. ]

So we've been keeping busy redecorating Shinjiro's house. Oh, he's not home right now, so I guess this is a surprise for him and his --

[ His attention shifts off screen for a moment. And he moves the camera towards who has stolen his attention.

Fie, who is dressed in a similarly oversized hoodie in red adds: ]

Well, it's your house too now.

[ He has a couple of notes: ]

Yeah, so it is, isn't it? As it is also my house, I'm going to replace some pieces of furniture that were a bit worn out.

[ A pause, then, he shifts, turning so his back is towards the road, where several pieces of furniture are: couch, end table, the dining table, a couple of mattresses. Immediately, they go up in flames. It looks to be a very controlled fire. Magic is great, isn't it? ]

It's probably better if we just burn everything. Start fresh. Is that a thing people do? I mean, it's too late anyway, but it's good to start. Don't worry - the fire is magic and will burn out when it's done it's job.

[ He moves, so he and Fie are both in frame. He tilts his head towards her. ]

Maybe we'll burn a little sage, too. I heard that it can help. What do you think, Koro?

[ Yes, he's asking the dog what he wants instead of asking Shinjiro. That's just how it goes. ]

But, on that note, I need to buy some replacement furniture as soon as possible - today, possibly. I've never had to replace it before and this was kind of impulsive. Yes, that means I'm looking for recommendations.

Oh - and if anyone wants to roast marshmallows before this fire is out --

[ Fie, notes: ] Bring your own.

[ And it cuts out. ]

[Welp. Guess who finally checked their watch after work. Shinjiro is sitting on a crate at the docks, expression set into something in-between a frown and absolute resignation. He really can't be too surprised but this still is not... What he expected.]

....Koro, too? You traitor.

[ok. ok time to actually. process this. so like half the shit in the house is now on the curb and also on fire when he really just wanted to go home and pass out for a few hours. Great. He brings a hand up to scrub at his face with an aggravated noise... but lets be really, he's not too put out by it. Clearly this is par for the course.]

Was the fire really necessary? You couldn't've just hauled it out?

Yes. Now we can roast marshmallows and keep you from bringing anything back.

[ See, that was the main reason. ]

There's still a couple of beds in there. Just - the more beat up stuff is getting replaced. It needs to be replaced. I think there was blood on my mattress.

--Oh, yeah, you took Makoto's old room. I think he ate in there.

[YEP. GONNA GO WITH THAT.]

You left the stuff in the kitchen alone, right? I know shit was beat to hell, but that's kinda how it came with the place when I got here.

Who did he eat in here? [ An amused, low sound. ]

I left most of the stuff in the kitchen alone. Most of it.

We have chairs still.

Who knows. [JUST. LEAVIN' IT AT THAT.]

I mean as long as you didn't go throwing out the butcher's block or the knives or anything like that.

I won't throw out the useful tools. Just furniture. The utensils look nice.

The utensils are nice, and even if some of that shit looks worn, it's cast iron and I just re-seasoned that shit like two weeks ago--

[Okay. Wait. Louis doesn't care about that rant. So he'll stop himself with a long exhale, and shakes his head.]

Just... let me know before you decide to burn up anything else, okay?

I wouldn't know. I just try not to touch them much since you're the expert. [ Yes, he just picks up whole fruit or vegetables and takes them when he needs them to eat. ]

I don't have plans for anymore bonfires, but I'll make sure to invite you first.

We hauled it out first. Didn't wanna burn the house.

Maybe. There're a few good sized things, so there's only so much I can do. The couch alone was pretty cumbersome.

[Fie shrugs.] The bottom was all saggy and torn. A new one will be better.

We've got marshmallows, though, if you want some.

[She's trying now, okay.]

[At least he won't press it too hard. All in all, this is..,.. kind of funny. A surprise, sure. But also definitely what he should have expected from these two.]

You sure it's okay to eat shit outta that fire? Who knows what sorta soot and shit's burning off that stuff.

[Not that he'll say no to some marshmallows. Just. As a thing to do while all the stuff burns.]

Yeah, it shouldn't be too long 'til I'm back. Need me to pick up anything else to roast while we're out there?

It's just on the flames, I did it all the time growing up. [As a jaeger.] Don't worry, we'll be okay.

[Fie nods, now smiling.]

Peppers and apples would be good if you don't mind. Want me to come meet you?

[HE STILL DOESN'T LOOK CONVINCED but whatever, it's probably fine. if it's not.... well. Whatever fumes from the burning foam and materials can't be that bad, right? And if it is, well. It's not like this place is forever, anyway.]

Whatever you wanna do. I'll run by the market on the way home, meet you either there or at home.

[A pause, and he scrolls up on the watch again, just to... get a look at that fire and try and guess how long it's gonna be burning.]

So did you guys really have to burn it all?
