I've got a couple questions for everyone.

How many people here were something else other than human or what they are now? How many ended up as something unexpected, e.g. a former monster-type ending up a witch or as a different sort of monster?

Have any witches put together a study group outside class?

[ derek is not super sociable but he also recognizes that he could probably use some help getting back into the swing of learning things. and he could also use some connections to people here. this is as good a way for that to happen as any. ]

And if someone is willing to talk about their experiences, I've got questions about Bonds.

I've seen your questions regarding Bonds.

Yes, I did know my Bonded before we made the decision. Without that, I doubt we would have gone through the process at all, for it is, as you've said, intimate. I needed to know I could trust him utterly and not find that knowledge ill-used.

Did it change things? Somewhat. He can tell my moods more easily, I his, and when either of use feels particularly strongly, there is something of a bleed between the link. As if there is an echo in yourself. A fleeting thing, but something to know all the same. But more than that, what changed was my own perceptions. I swore to stand beside him as his partner, and he mine, and so far we have upheld that in our lives.

When you put it like that, it almost sounds like a marriage.

I disagree, up to the point where I'd say not to rush headlong into the process. Yes, it's required to get by, but it puts you in a position where you must trust the other, and if you cannot do that, you may both suffer from how the magic backfires. Or trusting the others, if you're ambitious like some, but I hardly see why people need to Bond to multiple partners.

Have there been many Bonds that backfire?

Not that I have firsthand knowledge of. But the phenomenon has been known to happen. In much the same way that partnerships fracture apart through unchecked strife in general, so might it be reflected onto the Bond.

So it's an amplifier of what's already there. Good things, if the Bonded work well together, bad things if they don't?

Yes, though that's mainly a side effect. With practice and effort, one can hold back so that there isn't unwanted levels of amplification.

These are the kinds of things that would be nice to know when they tell you that you'll need a Bond or die.

I sympathize. They focus on the not dying aspect to the exclusion of others.
