Hey.

[That’s it. One word. Dylas’ voice is low, like usual, but there’s something unsteady about it. Maybe it’s nerves from using the pocketwatch, a device he’s still not used to, or...well.]

I know people have been...changing. It’s, uh. Not great. But...do the changes hurt for anyone else? There’s this spot on... my friend’s arm that’s all grey, and it hasn’t stopped hurting ever since it showed up. Does anyone else have that?

I’m asking for my friend.

[He’s not asking for a friend.]

[OOC; Dylas is infected by the Cwyld after an encounter with some Shades. He’s been hiding it under his clothes, but now his arm is hurting real bad.]

That's...that's not what I was trying to say! Don't twist my words around! I'm not your damn scratching post.

[He can't believe Konoe has the audacity to tell him to be more careful when Konoe was the one who left him to fend off the Shades. In his own recollection of events, if he'd run, they'd have gone after Konoe next. What was he supposed to do? One thing remains that he's absolutely sure of—he's glad it's him with an infection and not his roommate. He wants to be supportive with one hand, and he wants to push Konoe as far away as he can with the other. He'll invite him to the Coven with him, but he'll lash out at him at the same time.

It's the only way Dylas knows how to deal with people.]

I won't let it happen to me again.

[Famous last words, considering he gets infected again later in the month, but you know what? Whatever. He pulls on his shirt and looks at his arm. Part of the infection is showing visibly, peeking out from under the sleeve.]

Let's go.

[It's fine. That's what people have two hands for, right? One to push and one to pull. It's not like Konoe does much better with that, himself, and he'd rather that people be honest about their desire to push when it pops up, than to compromise their true feelings.]

... At least put your coat over it before you go outside.

[That was the plan anyway, probably, but Konoe can't resist the urge to say it. He's not sure how people will look at Dylas if they notice the infection, but he knows it won't be good, and Konoe doesn't want to deal with the anger he'd feel at that.

He's not sure he wants to keep looking at the infection himself, either.]

My coat's by the door.

[Is Mother Cat nagging him, or is there more meaning to what Konoe is saying? Dylas doesn't know. If he had to guess, he'd figure that Konoe doesn't want other people to see it. Hell, Dylas obviously doesn't like looking at it. Just the feeling of fabric resting over it leaves him wincing with one eye until he gets used to the feeling.

He starts walking. To the door, to the top of the stairs. He can listen for whether or not Konoe is following him, he doesn't need to watch him or call after him like he's a kid. Dylas stops at the top of the stairs to let Konoe down first.]

Does it bother you? That I'm not going to be a Witch?

[He's.

Not entirely sure where that question came from. He looks to the side.]

[Konoe follows quietly, lost in thought, and honestly wallowing in guilt a little. He knows there's no point; he knows he can't undo what happened. But he can't help but feel responsible for the state that Dylas is in, and that's not a good feeling, even if Dylas can be healed.

That question comes out of nowhere, and Konoe is sincerely confused by it, pausing at the top of the stairs before making himself continue to walk down them. This is a mission to get Dylas healed, after all.]

Why would that bother me?

[He really doesn't get it. Why would he want Dylas to be a witch?]

[He pauses when Konoe pauses, he follows when Konoe walks. He's letting the cat lead the way entirely, because he's in no hurry to do any of this. At the same time, he's not going to drag his feet, either. Dylas is committed to getting this taken care of.

Predictably, he's less committed to this conversation.]

Forget I asked. It's not important.

[Which, of course, means it's very important. Dylas is a little scared, a little anxious, a little pissed off all the time now because he's going to be a monster again. He hides it, but it's there.]

[Konoe, for one, is more than happy to lead the way. It makes him feel a little more in control in a situation that is otherwise very much out of his control. He takes deep breaths, tries to stay focused. They can do this. They will get this fixed.]

If it wasn't important, you wouldn't have asked, right?

[He can't make Dylas tell him, but that doesn't mean he won't try to nudge him in that direction.]

People ask unimportant questions all the time.

[He's going to brush it off just like that. Next, he's trying to distract Konoe by teasing him. Push with one hand and all that.]

You ask more questions than most. How's a short cat like you end up so full of questions, anyways?

You don't.

[Dylas rarely says anything insignificant, Konoe has found - but it's whatever. You can drag a horse to water, but you can't make it drink, etc. He's doing his best (or at least making an attempt) to understand Dylas, but that doesn't mean he can force the guy to spill his guts.

That's fine. It's Dylas' own dumb choice.]

I'm not short! This is a perfectly normal size for my species of cat!

Wha—I ask questions all the time!

[He feels guilty, being defensive over a distraction he created himself, but Dylas is better at talking like this. Defensively. Bickering. It's easier to talk like this than it is to be honest about how scared he is about a lot of the things that are going to happen to him from here on out.]

Just the other day I asked you what you wanted for dinner, short stuff. The cats back home are at least this much taller than you, by the way.

[He holds his hand a good few inches above where Konoe's is. He's absolutely lying, and Konoe would know there are no cats like him where he's from.]

That's not unimportant... and don't call me short stuff!

[Is he going to respond to every little thing Dylas says, shooting them all down individually? You betcha. Grumpy cat is grumpy - and honestly, he'd rather keep himself busy defending himself from Dylas' stupid accusations than worrying about the man. Horse. Whatever.]

Since when did your world even have cats?! If they're that big, they're a different species anyway!!

Can you speak up? I can't hear you down there.

[This is really how it's going to be. It's probably not the healthiest way to get anything done, but at least he's doing something about his arm. He pauses long enough to put on his jacket. Like before, he winces just at the feel of clothing settling over the wound. Fuck this infection.]

Well...I'm not saying my world has cats. But if it did, they'd be taller than you.

Just because you're overgrown...!

[It must work, this way of treating each other, because Konoe doesn't even feel his heart shatter when Dylas winces in pain anymore. So clearly this is a healthy, normal emotional relationship they have.]

Sure, everything is bigger where you're from. Especially the stupidity!

I'd rather be overgrown than be the runt of the litter!

[And off they go, bickering into the night?]
