So, uh. Anybody else realise they forgot their nameday? It's been a bloody year since I got 'ere. I'm twenty now.

--not that I celebrated my nameday before. Just know it's a custom for a lot of people. And now I've said it, maybe it'd be nice t'hear how people did it 'round your home.

We can't forget our homes. Even as some of us have been 'ere for so long.

The days to each moon aren't quite the same, so it might take some conversion… but in any case, that's some time away, now.

...I never did anything for it before. [ she admitted, quietly. ] But I'd like t'do... something. We've survived a year.

Yeah - same concept. We just call it something different. It's easy to ignore, though./

At home, it wouldn't have been. For me, anyway, which—I think would've made doing something here just too weird. You know? Better not to do anything than have it underscore how...obviously deficient it would be, comparatively.

I was born a couple of weeks before—

—quite a large winter holiday, at home. Daddy makes a fucking festival out of it, practically a month long. My birthday, Christmas, then New Year's, and spend all of January recovering.

I never celebrated any holidays back home. And celebrating yourself was seen as even less desirable. So it would have been weird, yeah. Plus the calendar is different.

What about when you were small? Did anyone celebrate your nameday for you then? I think mine's gone on so long just because my family's in denial I've grown up.

( also, they barely need an excuse for a piss up, it falls directly before Christmas, and it's hard to argue how super independent and grown up you are when your father pays your rent. )

My birthday was supposedly three months ago here. But it's not really been a year since my last one.

...At home I mean. The calendars are different. I'm not sure what age to give now.

The calendar is different then my home as well - back home, every month had 32 days. Eight a week.

Took me a while to adjust.

...Mine has the same number of days, But the time of year is different.

It doesn't help that the Wilde appears to be in the middle of summer while it's winter here.

It's just-- weird. Then again, they'd probably find my home weird - what, with one place of th'Star bein' snowy all the time.

Mine already came and went. I didn't see the point in noting it when I'm still not technically a year older, but other people felt differently.

Does it really matter? Holding onto sentiment about a place you can't go back to will only weigh you down.

...I still carry a lot from my home. Besides, someday I'll go back - I wanna feel like something's gonna change.

Seems as though thinking about it would only make you more homesick.

[ He's of the 'focus on the here and now and try not to have feelings about anything else' school of thought. Probably not the best way to cope, but it's how he gets by. ]

Do you really think you'll remember all this when you go back?

...no, I don't. At least, not consciously. But I don't want to think of... forgetting.

I see... The passage of time here is recorded very differently, after all. I suppose it would be easy to miss, save for the changing of the seasons.

[It's questionable how much changes from summer to winter in Ala Mhigo, though, other than perhaps temperature. Certainly no snow.]

You should treat yourself if you haven't already. Or if you're opposed, I can do it for you, perhaps?

Maybe you should write a memoir about yourself and your home. Then it wouldn't feel like you were forgetting.

Maybe. But people who've come here from there wouldn't like my bias.
