Network: May, An Inauspicious Arrival

The Network: May, An Inauspicious Arrival

The Watches

Everyone who arrives in an unorthodox way and eventually shows up at the Coven for 'orientation', will receive a strange, watch-like device compliments of the Coven and Parliament. Miss Nessie or one of the welcome wagon crew will give characters a run-down of how to use the various functions and they are encouraged to test them out for themselves. It would be good for them to get in touch with their fellow Mirrorbound, of course!

Fourth wall characters will not be able to make their own posts in the communities, so they may use this post to make "network posts" of their own by top-leveling. The log post is right over here.

[ 'Bleak' doesn't even cover it. ]

I didn't know there were so many different types. It's still hard for me to believe that they're able to keep the ice-cream cold in the summer.

What sort of place did you come from?

a place where a city like this is a couple of hundred years in the past.
i live in japan. have you heard of it before?

[ She's met a fair number of people here from Japan herself. ]

This is outdated for you? Your people must be walking on the moon by now.

I don't know any land by that name, but there's a lot about the world I live in we still don't know. It might exist.
[ For a long time they thought humanity existed only inside the walls. The concept of other civilizations and countries is a very new one to Jean's people. He can name about 3 other countries off the top of his head. ]

oh, so you're from somewhere that's pretty isolated? like an island, or something?

[ But isn't it human nature to explore? Maybe there's something that's keeping them there. ]

[personal profile] trost 2020-05-18 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. The people in my country lived within the walls for about a hundred years. For a long time, we thought that we were all that humanity had left.

[ He's wondering if she really wants to hear about giants eating people, though. ]

[ Geez, that sounds bleak, even without knowing about the man-eating giants. ]

wow...but you don't think that anymore? did you make contact with other people outside your country?

trost: (tbh tho prob not)

[personal profile] trost 2020-05-18 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
We did come into contact eventually, but that's not how we found out. How we found out ... is a really long story that involves a basement.

[ It's extremely bleak. Many people die. Par for the course for his world, pretty much. He doesn't think Ann wants to hear about that either. ]

There, we pretty much learned that the rest of the world wants us dead.

that's...really rough. i don't know how i'd take if it i found that out about my home.

[ A basement, huh... ]

you're not going to take that kind of treatment from the rest of the world, are you?

[personal profile] trost 2020-05-21 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Of course not, but we're just a small island. We had plans to build better economic relations.

[ Her talk of 'not going to take that kind of treatment' reminds him of someone else, though. Someone whose tenacity can be lethal. It makes him frown when he thinks about that person. ]

What would you do, in our situation?

[personal profile] confectionerie 2020-05-22 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
oh, me?

[ Even after what she said, she isn't expecting that question, and it takes her a moment to consider her answer. What would she do? ]

i guess i'd do whatever it would take to keep my home safe. it shouldn't really matter what they think of you.
trost: (050.)

[personal profile] trost 2020-05-22 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah? Would you go as far as killing others?
confectionerie: (118)

[personal profile] confectionerie 2020-05-24 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ Hm...that's a fair question, but still not an easy one to answer. ]

If there was no other way to keep the people I care about safe...

Sorry, I didn't mean for the conversation to get all heavy.
trost: (come and jump on it)

[personal profile] trost 2020-05-24 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Guess that's the reasonable response after all. You're like someone I know.

[ Someone who is off destroying the rest of the world -- at least, back home. Sorry, Ann, but this is where his mind is going. ]

... Nah, it's my fault it got heavy. [ Because his life is so fucked!!! ]

[ It's okay, she's a bit more ruthless than some of her fellow Phantom Thieves, so it's not entirely unfair... ]

Don't worry about it. It's probably not an easy thing to talk about, either. By the way, I'm Ann! Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself before.

[ ann savage queen ]

It's alright. My name's Jean.

I've talked a lot about myself already. Do you... come from a peaceful land then?
confectionerie: (48)

[personal profile] confectionerie 2020-05-30 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Not exactly. It depends on where in the world you're asking about. My country's pretty peaceful, though. At least, from a war perspective. There's been a lot of other shady things happening lately, though.
