[ “On the back of the device, inlaid in the curve, is a small camera of a fairly decent quality, which allows for sepia-toned videos and photos to be taken and saved on and off the network.”
The Watches are truly a marvel. Despite a lack of anything similar in her home world, Leslie has been slowly growing accustomed to their functions. But she does occasionally make mistakes. For example, saving a photo on the network rather than off the network.
The photo seems to be a closeup of a wall where two somewhat wobbly chalk lines have been drawn one above the other. The lower line is surrounded by a smudge: the remnants of other chalk lines drawn and erased on the same spot. To one side, slightly out of focus, is a very magnified version of a fountain pen and Leslie’s hand holding it inside the shot. Assuming a standard fountain pen size, the chalk lines seem to be between 1-2 cm apart, or around half an inch.
Leslie adds a couple of notes onto the image. For her own use, she thinks, not realizing that she just published the photo to the network. ]

My growth spurt is finally here!
[ It seems that Leslie has been measuring her own height against a wall:specifically, a patch of wall normally hidden behind her dresser to make it harder for anyone to find out about what has been up until now a very stalled record of growth. She’d been in the habit of checking her height very frequently, but even without experiencing the attack on Dorchacht or the hunt for Morgana personally, there have been too many stressful events for her to remember to do so over the past couple of months, with the benefit that her finally arrived growth seeming a little more dramatic. A little. ]
Remember to find out which foods promote faster growth to accelerate the change.
How to casually let people know I’m growing:

[ The list is empty. She could not brainstorm a way to brag about this small change in height in a way that isn’t embarrassing before saving the picture in what she thought was off the network. She thinks she can get to it later. ]

entertainingly, my D&D character in a campaign is convinced this happens
It happened here.
Is it really that scary?
[It seems she doesn’t realize the misunderstanding she caused. She just meant that when a fae friend shrunk, she went from chest height to chin height relative to that fae, which made her think she’d grown that difference rather than the fae shrinking. She doesn’t realize she made it sound like she was stealing their height.]
I suppose they might not read this part, at least, since it is a private conversation.
So they might not expect talking about it in that way.
[There is zero filtering on this. It’s only private in so far as Leslie has taken “it’s impolite to eavesdrop” and imported it into her network behaviour by not reading threads between others. There’s absolutely nothing stopping anyone else from reading this.]
How quickly did you grow?
in a d&d world that feels like a sound assumption though
uh
[no, that is definitely kind of scary if it happens completely spontaneously and without warning or choice. but if it happens here...conveying the depths of his quiet freakout would definitely scare her, and that's super uncool. Styx has to think extremely hard about his next reply before sending it, because um? height theft??? why is that a thing?]
i mean i guess if thats how its always worked its ok
nobody seems real upset about it right ?
its just weird since thats not how it is for me at home
uh
dont think it is anyway
[is it? ...no, it can't be. Vincent would have stolen half the city's height to make up for his diminutive stature long before now if it was. phew.]
i shot up real fast honestly
like i was always kinda on the big side
but it really felt like i went to bed one night and was like
twice as big
the rest of the party doesn’t think so, but maybe because my character is a weirdo.
It’s only some people who lose height, when they become more like the monsters who live here.
At least, the ones who become like the shorter monsters.
People grow the way they would normally.
Except for the people who are becoming larger monsters. They grow more quickly, and when they’re already finished growing before here.
If you’re a witch, you don’t have to worry about it at all.
And there are people who don’t change heights as monsters.
I think. I never asked the vampires I have met if their height has changed. They were both fairly short.
[Pot, kettle, etc.]
You’re really lucky....
I hope I can grow like that from now on.
Though I have not started off bigger than most people.
wellllll....50/50 chance of that
[a single, very simple word, but you can practically hear the latent concern leaking out of Styx like a balloon from it. just another thing that he didn't have to deal with as a witch...it really was an unfair balance, wasn't it?]
i dunno either !
like vampires are supposed to be tall and skinny so maybe ?
should ask if i know one and see
oh uh
i mean thanks !
but i dont think im too lucky with that
it all made me way too big honestly
so i think its better you started off kinda normal
youll probably end up a real nice height at the end :)
