[The forge in the background is slightly smoky with the big hearth-fire going, and Hiccup has a smudge of charcoal on his cheek, and black dust all over his tunic and leather apron. Some project or another is on the worktable behind him, but he's fixated on something that has him frowning in thought.

He turns the video around to catch Toothless in the shot, peering down at a much smaller, black and white dragonling, who is making loud, insistent screeching noises at the night fury, practically crying while the bigger dragon seems at a loss.] Am- Am I crazy, or does anyone else see a family resemblance here? [He turns the video back, still frowning. The sound continues like a background track, interspersed with confused sounds from Toothless.] I guess this one's been harassing fishmongers in the Harbor District for the last few weeks... No one recognizes the little fella, do they?

[It's been a bit of a headscratcher, figuring out where she came from. A mirror, obviously, but- his? Really?]

Uh- well. Regardless! Hi, I'm Hiccup, I own the forge just outside town with Percy, and also the Phoenix Tear, which is a clinic for, uh. Mostly Monsters, but anybody, really! It used to be my Bonded's so I'm trying to keep it running. If you're new and need- anything, honestly, just go there! It's located in the barracks. At the forge, we do a little bit of everything, including enchantments, so if you need anything made, weapons or armor or whatnot, just talk to me or Percy. We do custom work, great for gifting!

[He seems like he's about to sign off, but then something occurs to him, and he leans into the camera again to ask,] Wait, before I- What charities are taking donations this year? For the holidays? Modranicht and stuff. Toys or- or money, whatever. Okay, that's everything!

[ Vex's eyes light up, a far cry from the more restrained mask she's worn in the forge lately, and she shakes her head slightly. ]

What a little darling! [she is definitely heading for the forge now to see in person!] There's definitely more than a passing resemblance there. When did you find them?

[The newcomer's insistent baying continues in the background, interspersed with Toothless's huffs and rumbles. Hiccup looks both frazzled and- tentatively hopeful for some reason.]

You think so? [What it means if there is a resemblance... That's huge. He can't comprehend that just yet.] Ah, recently, we- we went down to the Harbor to pick up some more of that herring that Toothless likes, and one of the fishmongers told me that- that he? she?- [Toothless makes an affirming noise at 'she'.] She was causing some trouble at the stalls lately, and asked if I'd take her back with me.

Well, he asked me to find her parents, but- but I don't think she's a, you know. A person-Dragon. Capital D dragon.

Absolutely. At least, what I can see from this angle. [it is a little harder to tell, especially with both the tiny dragon and Toothless moving as they are.] And if you found her at the fishmongers, she was likely following the smell of food.

Babies are always hungry. You have fed her, right?

[...it might explain her behaviour if you haven't.]

Hmmm, possibly. It could be worth asking at the orphanages if they've been contacted about any missing children?

Uh. [The video's background shifts and lurches as if he's abruptly jumped down to go do just that. Luckily they can keep fish and other meats in a warded chest outside while it's cold enough to keep things frozen.] In- you know, in my defense, the fact that she- looks like a baby Night Fury is kind of huge! We- we thought Toothless was the only one. [The last words are said with a kind of desperation that comes from years of searching for others like his friend, for where his friend came from.]

I guess I can, but- but the kids usually have human forms around here, I thought. I don't see them fully transform all that often.

The only one..? Well then. [that says a lot, and Vex's heart goes out to Toothless. But, for there to be a baby means..] That means this little one is a cause for celebration!

What differences does she have compared to Toothless? Given the name, I take it piebald isn't a typical colouration from what you do know of Night Furies?

[her smile softens] You'd know best what a baby dragon from your home would eat more than I. I'm just heading past the outer markets now. Do you want me to grab anything for her?

You're likely right about that. And I've not heard of the presence of mirrorbound or their familiars influencing the appearance of native monsters. Still, it doesn't hurt to ask them just in case.

[yan bingyun frowns as he looks from toothless to the smaller dragon in the video. but his eyes betray the surprise that he's feeling, as well as the hard swallow before he speaks. you know, your typical 'seeing a dragon for the first time' face.]

...Is the larger one your Bonded?

[That's a well-known face to Hiccup by now. If he had a cune for every time he's had to explain this to natives, he'd be even richer than he is now. Luckily he doesn't seem to mind, laughing sheepishly and shaking his head.]

No, no, that's- that's Toothless. He came here with me through the mirror. He's- well, here, he's my familiar. My... Bonded, he went home a while back...

[this post is practically an overstimulatation of sights and sounds for someone possessing only a single brain cell such as Styx. the first thing that attracts his attention is the setting - because that is so literally metal? he's never seen an actual blacksmithing operation anywhere but on album covers, so even with the distance of watch videos between them it feels excitingly real.

he wants to gush about it, honestly...but then this teeny tiny baby dragon is brought on screen and most of his thoughts jump straight out the window.]

Aw, sounds like he's getting kind of cranky! Maybe it's time for a nap.

[do dragons even nap? Styx has absolutely no idea, but...despite being one of the most fearsome creatures known to man or beast, he can't help looking at this particular little one as nothing but outright adorable. maybe it's the size, or the sweet roundness of its head...like a really friendly toad.

...ah. the guy is said something else, didn't he? and something that was relevant to the drummer, so less. his brain lags behind but eventually catches up, resulting in some additional commentary that somehow manages to feel both delayed and rushed at the same time.]

Oh, uh, 'nd if you're looking for a place to donate stuff it'd be real cool if you picked the orphanage! Um, the one down by the harbor, I mean. Been getting together like, a grab bag for the kids there, so it'd be killer to have some more stuff to fill it with.

That- That might be a good idea, along with some food. We've uh, we've all had a long day out here! [He laughs sheepishly, as the dragon wailing continues in the background.] Ah, it's been a long time since I've, uh, had a baby dragon around, that didn't have its parents...

[Technically she does have one parent here, but canon points are a bitch.]

Oh! Yeah, sure, I can definitely do that. I was thinking about- carving some wooden toys and making some Viking helmets this year for the kids for Modranicht, I did it for a few kids last year and they really seemed to like it, so. If you just want to pick them up and add them to your uh-, grab bags?, to give out to the kids, that'd be great!

Yeah, I bet! Must be scary to end up all by yourself 'nd then with people you don't know. Probably make everybody feel a little better to sleep it off.

[it was kind of what he'd done when he'd been pulled into this world, wasn't it? of course, he was neither a dragon nor a baby...but Styx figures he's got the mental capacity of an infant so it still might end up being a useful suggestion.]

Oh, dude, they'd go nuts for that!

[hell, a viking helmet sounds pretty damn killer to him, let alone the kids. maybe they'd let him share?]

Uh, we got some teethers still though, so if you gotta make 'em extra thick or whatever so they don't end up breaking maybe you should. 's no rush or anything! Just gimme a shout when they're done 'nd I'll drop by, usually don't got too much going on.

The refugees are always looking for donations, or maybe the orphanage by the harbor.

I'm interested in armor, but do you do any leather work too? I may have something that'd get you a pretty penny.

[If not for his trepidation in venturing even a little bit out of the city and knowing the stereotype of dragons breathing fire, Ferran would be all over his new Fae instinct to hop over and ~~kidnap~~ adopt the miniature creature immediately.

LOOK AT ITS LIL SOCKS... There's an almost dreamy smile on Ferran's face when he replies, his free hand resting against the side of his face.]

I didn't know dragons could be so cute. It looks like it's trying to talk to the older one.

[Hiccup is a hell of a name, but Ferran is too polite to do much but judge his parents internally. ~~He possibly learned that earlier anyway.~~ The great for gifting comment gets him thinking... something custom would be nice, but he'd like to figure out how to do some of that himself.]

Did you learn all your enchantment at the Coven? I've been trying to figure out what Fae can do...

[There's a lot here, donations, enchantments. But none of that matters because...

Baby...

Look, even before she was a fae she doted. That it was a habit of fae hadn't registered to Mikasa until the times she'd found herself absently walking off with a random child in her arms. The only issue she'd had was the sheepish walk back to return them. ]

Hug them...

[Priorities. Baby was crying, give hugs and cuddles as you worked it out. 10/10 advice. ]

[ Oh, that's adorable. Shiro's eyes are somewhat bright, and he definitely looks charmed. ]

I don't recognize them, but... they're pretty cute. Is that a dragon?
