I have been spending a bit of time with these.. little devices of late. They're rather primitive, are they not?

All these bland sepia tones. Little true utility.

As it seems no-one else has bothered to see what they can do with them, I've decided to put them to the test and see if some upgrades are possible and see what they're capable of if their limited technology is pushed to its limits. A small test should be enough to find out if it's possible; I intend to see if these things are capable of producing and recording true color.

Now I know everyone must simply be exceedingly fond of the sepia coloring it forces on everything and everyone, but surely your lives are much too short to render everything depressingly brown forever.

I suppose, when I succeed, I will allow for suggestions to be made on further changes. What DO your precious little hearts desire by way of improvements to these devices?

I guess you're right there. I've been here over a year and a half and many only notice the obvious.

Still, if you're taking requests. Maps with popular landmarks and event notifications from a calendar.

I don't really care about aesthetic as long as its functional.

I will add it to the admittedly short list. One would think improvements would be something people want, but mayhap I underestimated how complacent the populace truly is.

I can certainly provide storage for music but I don't intend to make any myself. You'll have to ask local musicians.

I'd be willing to do that. Would it essentially be the option to record and to play back? I feel like the quality would be kind of bad, in that case... unless some music nerd Mirrorbound has a recording studio hiding somewhere.

I imagine so at first. Open air recordings tend to not be high quality. But if your chosen musicians are willing to perform somewhere more sound controlled, the quality would be presumably higher.

More would require specialized sound recording specific equipment and I've not a lot of interest in inventing a mixer.

[Midousuji doesn't blame him on that—sounds like a big pain in the ass. Midousuji does miss the convenience of listening to music whenever he pleases, especially while out and about... but it's not as if this place has headphones, either. sheesh.]

man I wouldn't even be able to begin thinking of what else I would want my watch to do. what are my options? give me some examples of what other, better watches can do

Yes.

I can't speak for every world of course, and mine own is currently in something of a drought technologically save a single nation, but it's quite common once a certain level of tech is achieved, these things pop up. And then they do all kinds of things.

Note storage, normal storage, probably a small number of games. Tracking devices, for those apprehensive about kidnappings, possibly aid for the blind beyond the built in text to speech, tiny images to go with the texts to convey 'emotion', and so on.

So long as the desired thing isn't too intensive graphics wise, I feel these should be able to be tuned to accomplish it, with some work. Higher graphics will require more work than I'm willing to invest.

no way! you can't store something inside one of these, it's way too small. and the insides are taken up with tiny gears and pulleys and whatever else makes it work.

Think of your watch as a spell, that you can hold in your hand. Spells are not limited simply because the components are small.

Admittedly you won't be able to store say, lunch, in it. But you could store a song. Or a book. Or a list of things you need to pick up at a shop.

You've put quite a bit of thought into it. Do you like using that version? Tiny pictures could also be used, or both at once, if such a thing were built in.

yeah, studying all the time can get boring. I don't know how wizards do it. I miss being a sorcerer.

what do you mean tiny pictures? like ones you take using the camera thing?

Wizard and sorcerer are interchangeable meanings as I know the words, but clearly you have a distinction between them. What is it?

Not quite like that picture, no. It's closer to the symbols you were using earlier, such as :) but illustrations instead of key taps.

a sorcerer or sorceress is someone who is born with magic, like I was. a wizard is someone who has to learn magic by studying. my friend Walter is a wizard. bards also learn their magic in school, but bard magic is usually done with music or telling stories. it's not really the same as wizard or sorcerer magic. my friend Marzia is a bard.

Perhaps a calendar? One where notes may be written on the days and marks the phases of the moon.

Security features may put more people at ease when utilizing them, if they can be arranged.

I don't know if much can be done with regards to the security of the messages themselves. But the watches themselves may be used by anyone who holds them. If they can be locked to the individual person, this would be beneficial.

That may be beyond the purview of this limited technology, but I can look into it. The difficulty of even coding a device into the magical signature of a user is that can change, and rapidly. Biology is also a poor identifier for similar reasons.
