For those that might be interested, I have through considerable effort figured out how to tweak these devices into allowing the display of color video and images beyond sepia.
[There is a steady tap tap tap, like a claw on metal.]
Which I would demonstrate, save that this is a physical change to the device and requires me to put in several very small items to function. Thus if you have interest in seeing each other in color, I can be found at the Second Time's The Charm shop, which sells these communicators, for the next several days. Make an appointment. As I am generous, I will not charge for my considerable time and efforts in this, though I will not refuse donations. You will have to turn your device over to me for a bell or so, there's no way around it. If you refuse, you may purchase another, I can update that one, and you may turn in your old one for recycling.
Technically I can't refuse anyone who asks for my aid. But if you are rude, violent, or otherwise not on good behavior something unpleasant may happen to your device while my talons are in its guts. Try to at least feign civility.
[OOC: The first watch update is here, IN LIVING COLOR. Lahabrea absolutely must get his hands on a watch in order to upgrade it. While this interaction can be handwaved!! you may also come visit Lahabrea and have it done in person for delicious CR! He won't refuse anyone, and he'll take into account rude people at least making an effort at being polite. Upgrades are freeeee! Make an appointment (in this thread or inboxes or etc I don't mind~) and come get your color upgrade!
Although he didn't mention it in this notice, he's willing to teach others how to do this as well, so other people can do upgrades! If you're interested, find an excuse to ask him! I welcome any and all assistance; the more hands I get the faster I can do future upgrades too!]

Lahabrea's managed to wrap himself nearly from head to toe in shrouding black cloth, only his horns and claws easily visible, but there's no mistaking what he is. The corner against the window he'd set himself up at is brightly lit, sized to large dragon comfort and not standard human, with a table covered in bits of machinery, tools, supplies and opened watches. Archer might well recognize many of the tools and even components, they're not uncommon and certainly meant for fine, delicate work.
Things large dragon claws aren't suited to at all.
A single chair sits in front of the table, comfortable enough without being too inviting.]
Welcome.
[His voice isn't exactly pleasant to the ear, rough and a little gutteral, but he's at least maintaining control of tone, neutrally polite.]
On the off chance your beast favors hoarding precious metals or jewels, be mindful I have some for my work and will need to defend them in order to do these upgrades.
[Simple dragon protocol, no offense is really meant by it. At least in a neutral location, territoriality shouldn't be an issue..]

Duly noted. [a hint of slightly sarcastic smirk shows on his lips.] Rest assured, for my beast sees nothing of particular interest in such trinkets.
[He gestures at the watch.]
Can you explain the process? I have to admit I am curious, and would like to learn it too.
no subject
[That spares one potential headache. At least few other monsters get viciously possessive of things they just happen to spot, so he doesn't have to worry overmuch about encountering it.
The question about the watches earns a slow frown.]
Yes and no. I could tell you I remove the previous imaging crystals and power sources and replace them with very different power sources and crystals, but how much would that truly tell you?
[Maybe Archer, as a craftsman himself, would understand the difficulty in what he'd just been asked - where Archer's understandings of the inner workings of these devices stood was a complete mystery, and sometimes simply telling did nothing at all to actually instruct.]
Tis certainly possible to teach, but not through telling. Sit, and give me your device.
[A gesture; the chair's there and waiting, and he has a supply of watches he's been taking apart and putting back together for a month now. One of these is set on the other side of the table, theoretically in front of where the Servant will sit as bidden.
He's not exactly the friendliest of potential instructors, but he's willing to give it a go - on his terms. A crash course of everything he's learned in the course of his efforts would be difficult at best. But dragon see, dragon do? Surely easier!]
If you are already an artisan of some stripe, mayhap if I proceed carefully you may be able to replicate my procedure. I do not have duplicates of all tools however.
no subject
Not much. [he admits as he does what he's asked, taking out his watch and handing it to the other Dragon.]
Tools can be replicated as long as their purpose is understood.
no subject
A box is immediately set out in its place, right next to the duplicate watch.]
Claw caps if you don't have them. Might as well make use of every tool currently available..
[He waits only a few moments before turning the watch on its side.]
There is a small catch. A screwdriver or a talon tip fits easily. Twist, and it opens.
[As demonstrated, it pops right in half, displaying the numerous mechanical and magical components within.]
Unfortunately the parts that are needed to be replaced are underneath everything you see; if you are capable of such swift memorization, it may be disassembled and set aside at your leisure. If not ... I have another device with which you may take progress photographs.
