Does magic exist in your world? What is it like, and how do others view those who use it? If not, is there something similar to it where you are from?
With so many of us coming from different worlds, it would be a good idea for us to pool our knowledge and resources to figure things out. The rules might not be the same here, but having a base to start from is better than nothing at all, wouldn't you agree?

You know, if you didn't want to talk at all about your own world's magic, you could always pretend there is no magic there at all.
But that would make you a liar. I can respect not going that route
[ And dropping the subject, for now, is a courtesy out of that respect. In his book omission of information is different than lying. They all have secrets, he understands the nature of them. ]
Fine back to me- it's not all that interesting really. In the old times, there was less of a known world, fewer people. If you jumped on a ship and sailed in unknown direction there was always a mystery to uncover, new people, to meet, new gods to hear of.
Over time - hundreds of years - humans took over the entire world, they advanced with their logic, science and other complicated words. They know and research a lot but there is not much more mystery left in the world for them. And since magecraft runs on mystery...

Using natural progression to obscure part of the truth. That seems like a smart way to stay hidden. Although I'm not quite sure what you mean by it running on mystery. Could you explain?

Man. Smarter heads tried to do that, not sure if I can sum it up succinctly enough.
What we call "mystery" in this context is simply the source of all the supernatural phenomena of old. It accumulates over time so the rule is that the older it is, the more powerful. But the older it is, the more likely it got lost. Or hidden on purpose.
[ Mages discovering something incredible and never telling anyone so it can be used as a trump card in a decisive moment? - yes, that's A thing ]
Modern magecraft is at its base an attempt at a reenactment of miracles from the past. A shadow of what once was, but still powerful.
