Does magic exist in your world? What is it like, and how do others view those who use it? If not, is there something similar to it where you are from?

With so many of us coming from different worlds, it would be a good idea for us to pool our knowledge and resources to figure things out. The rules might not be the same here, but having a base to start from is better than nothing at all, wouldn't you agree?

Funny to me that magic's a thing in more places besides here.
I thought that when it's a normal thing then that's called science.

That is an interesting way to look at things. I suppose if it does occur naturally in the world that one could apply scientific methods to test out magic-related hypotheses. Testing theories to see if they work in practice.

Where there's magic I mean.
Nothing works "just because" so if they don't then that sounds like a big damn waste.

Not in my experience. Science and fact are treated much more positively in society.

Back where I'm from we have this saying that sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from magic.

How do you know people aren't kind of FORCING there to be a difference by getting scared away by bigger and better things?

Where I am from, our people believe in the accomplishments of man without the aid of such things as magic. They prospered in spite of it, and have created a place where people do not need to live in fear of what they don't understand.

Hey I get that! Sounds to me like another way you could do that though is to fix the part where you don't understand it.

Sounds to me like you could always do a bit better than prosper.
You may as well think of tech as cheating, too. It's just using everything you got.

I agree, but not everyone thinks that way. You would be surprised by the number of people who would rather live their lives unencumbered by what they don't understand. Ignorance is bliss for some.

Technology isn't something that our people put as much focus on. In the larger cities, perhaps, but our people live more simple lives.
