[Typing is terrible for someone not used to it (and someone not even that great at writing, at that): one attempt has been enough to convince Konoe never to try again if he can help it.
Video, however... is honestly creepy!? How do people get so small, and how can they be sure they'll get out of the watch again? He may be a cat, but he's not stupid!
So he tries for voice, even though he's not used to voice calls, either. He gets really close to the watch and pronounces everything a little slowly, overly clearly.]

[There, he did it. There's an audible sigh, of determination as much as relief, and then the feed ends.

[Trapped between a rock and a hard place, Mary scrambles to make sense of what he does and doesn't want. Why is such a simple thing so difficult?]

But I definitely don't want to have to stay cooped up in the dark reading a bunch of pointless books for days. I've already done that before. Now it's someone else's turn!

At least his attitude is calming down somewhat, but he's still a little defensive. Yes, he could offer to do the reading. And no, he doesn't feel up to that. He doesn't need anyone to know his reading isn't fast.]

Konoe is a very cornered cat right now, and he'd like nothing more than to tell Mary to shove it, but... that would be like admitting his weakness! When clearly having it found out and being mocked for it is so much better. (Okay, he's not a terrible reader, but. He's definitely not great.)]

Fine. But you're picking the books.

[Relevant books. He means relevant books. Let's not have any witchy monstery bodice rippers. (Or let's.)]

[Bad move, Konoe. Mary may be a better reader, but that doesn't mean he knows how to discriminate. These two are going to have a blast driving each other crazy.]
