video - open

Name: Daenerys Targaryen
Date: Octeuril 8
Format: Video

[ Daenerys had made it quite clear since arriving that she does not trust many. She's spoken out against the Coven in their fear of opposing Dorchacht when slavery was a very serious reality and also wary of how quickly dignitaries were shipped off to take responsibility for something outside of their control. So today, she is visible with a serious expression on her face — although those eyes still have a warmth to them that her closer allies may recognize.

There's no pleasantries, instead: ]

It has been a little bit since many of us have returned from Dorchacht. My bones have settled back into the bed I’ve grown use to, but my mind still wanders. I can not shake a sense of… discomfort after everything, even if my heart is pleased to know we have helped forged a better future for Dorchacht.

However, I ask of you all — how do we feel returning back to this city? How do you feel about the Coven in Aefenglom in their role of this prior month? We have been shown kindness, however we not native here and if it comes between us and their “peace”, I am not foolish enough to put my faith to them. We were sent into a situation that could have ended tragically. I call that irresponsible and it is clear Aefenglom was willing to stay silent keeping peace. There are things the Coven has done, although not quite as enraging as Dorchacht, which leaves me feeling frustrated and wary.

I ask this question not to sway opinion, but to discuss where do we — the ones from the mirrors — go if Aefenglom is no longer the ally we may believe them to be? Having this conversation of where our allegiance lies will help make choices easier – more collective — going forth.

Please, share your thoughts.

[ HI GUYS. This is a big ole open post for everyone to discuss the shakiness of Aefenglom, Parliament, and the Coven as a whole in regards to the Mirrorbound. I hope to move a plot forward of seeking independence without Aefenglom’s influence in the next few weeks and would love to ICly get talks going so points can be made for why this could be a good or bad thing. I will be refining a plot proposal based upon the feedback ICly brought up here!! I will try to reply to topics relevant to Dany, but this is kind of a springboard for a broader discussion. So go ham, thread jack, etc! ]

Do you have any ideas how we make them need us, then? You know, without causing real problems. Do you have something they don't? Sure, I'm sure we have manpower. We have numbers. And we're willing to do things they don't seem to want to.
Or at least some of us are.

I'm always standing toe-to-toe with predators.
[ But he's always been there by being smarter, more willing, and capable. They respected, and some maybe even feared - him. ] But every predator wants something different. I guess we need to know what that is first. Because if they haven't disposed of us yet, then there's a reason we're here still.

You partially answered your own question. That's not to say there aren't other methods to it, but if they want simply expendable bodies that they're willing to take care of for as long as we survive, that gives us one advantage. And is a situation I am intimately familiar with.

And you're right about that. They continue to want something from us, which means we continue to have value, which means it would be hurting themselves to toss us out. I can make guesses that it at least partially has something to do with the fact most Mirrorbound bolster their fighting force against all the things which threaten their lives, but that cannot be all of it. It can't be what justifies the hospitality to such an extent.

I mean, we are expendable. New ones of us - well, maybe not us exactly - can come through the mirrors. So if we can be replaced, we need to make sure that they keep us for more than just that. Not that I think that's it anyway.

If that was it they'd add us to their forces immediately. They're letting us do an awful lot of things by choice. To me that means they don't only need us for things, but they also need us content to have a bit of freedom.

And what do you suppose can be gained by having a legion of strangers traipse around in your city, with very few restrictions on their movements and actions? Especially such disparate ones as the Mirrorbound are - because I am under no illusion that all of us, or even many of us, have goals which align with each other.

Nothing. I know where I'm from we'd certainly be suspicious of everyone. So, we have to have value otherwise. Just don't know what it is. Seems silly to let us do the things we do if our value is none.

And no, definitely not. I'd say most of us probably don't fully agree.

I wonder if any of us actually agree on many things. Maybe in the smallest of groups, but as a whole? Dorchacht seemed to have been the only thing so far to get most people's attention, but that's such an extreme case, I don't think it would be so easy to replicate it on a more common basis.

I'm sure in very small groups we do, too. Or, maybe there will be people I agree with on some things and not on others. And I'm going to be very honest, I disliked us getting involved with Dorchacht. I understood, but if I were making decisions, we would not have gotten involved, or had very limited involvement with a screening process.
