Has anyone noticed if the people who arrived the other week have started going back yet? [Very blunt. So blunt, it almost sounds like she can't wait to be rid of them. But she's just wondering how long she has until Jean just disappears and she's alone again.

[Why couldn't he have been here when it was an overgrown mess. But instead of responding on the watch, she just stands up, opens her bedroom window and sticks her head out. This cottage is a bungalow. She's pretty much on the same level as him.]

From what they say you won't know where I am. [Reassuring!] It's not as though you can stay here, I'd go back if I could.

[ There's no need to be talking to his device now. He pockets it and turns toward where she is, keeping one hand on the plow and the other in his pocket because he's a cool guy (citation needed). ]

I won't go back without you. [ Then, a sigh, because he knows things don't often go the way he wants to. ] But I know it's not up to me to decide.

[ It's fruitless to go on about this for too long because it's not like there's anything he can do about it, so he continues running his plow through the soil. ]

I'll probably go back to the Coven later and keep hassling the guys there for more information.

[Jean might notice that the watch was open and still in one hand. If he checks it, he'd find one last message.]

[That's it. What does this mean? Blame Momo. But with it sent, she just plonks her watch down on a dresser near the window. Giving him a nod.]

If it was then I'd have been back as soon as I arrived... Hopefully. Whatever they did that brought you here gave them some answers.

[They'd already talked about this. Small comments, what would happen. She just sighs, leaning on the windowsill.]

[ Nothing they can do about that now but wait for answers. It's really like those earlier days back home, before they found the basement, where so much information was out of their reach.

Jean does receive a little buzz that brings his attention to the latest text. He takes it out and looks at it.

[Mikasa's eyes just, close. It's not a smile, but not the intent staring, the watching. It was fine not to always watch Jean.]

Yes. Momo taught me it... It's not the most useful thing, but it was easier to learn than the magic.

[She was still working on that. And probably would be for a while. Magic was difficult when you'd never heard of it before.]

Yeah, magic's been a pain in the ass to pick up so far. [ Though he's mostly thinking about the very annoying guy he met who was trying to teach him. Now that Jean knows he's going home soon, he doesn't see much point learning it anymore. ]

I guess people can't really see your face when you type on this thing. That's why people use these. [ He stares at the face she had made again. ]

...I got called stupid because I didn't understand it when I arrived here...[Dully. Because it's been a good three months since then and she still didn't fully understand even with her studying and going to the library.

[ There's a huff in disapproval at that. Who's going around, being rude to Mikasa? Obviously, since they have nothing like these machines back where they come from, they won't understand these symbols at all. He would express his disapproval if not for the fact that his stupid blunt words seemed to have made Mikasa deflate a little. It seems he's the one going around, being rude to Mikasa now ... ]

Huh? Wait, no, you can send them to me. I ... guess they're kinda cute now that I've had a better look at them. [ Him and his stupid big mouth, again. ] Why don't you show me how you make them?

[They weren't the easiest thing to use. But she was getting the hang of it, especially because a lot of people seemed to use them.]

They've been useful when talking to some people. [If Jean looked back at her post later that day, he might notice that one person seemed to end every sentence with a face.]

There's not a lot to show, you just put letters and shapes in till they look right. [And she grabs her watch again, and frowns. Some slow typing later, he gets another message.]

[ See, if this were Connie, Jean would be more than happy to tell him 'that looks like a crappy rabbit'. Since it's Mikasa, he keeps his dumb mouth shut.

Actually, he just finds the attempt more endearing than anything. ]

Guess the letters make out the ears. [ Kinda. The more he stares at it the more he does see it. He'll feel silly trying this out himself but he is starting to wonder if this is a strange kind of art. ]

Have you always liked cute stuff? [ He's learning more and more about Mikasa now that it's just the two of them alone. Back home, it's not actually that common they spend this much time alone together because Mikasa was usually with Armin (and Eren, once upon a time) and Jean would usually stick with Sasha and Connie. ]

But then she freezes when he comments. Dipping her slightly. That growth spurt working to her advantage as awkwardly glances away. And she's definitely hesitating to answer him.]

I actually think it's quite fitting. [ He always did have a feeling she had a more feminine side but they were never in a situation she could show it to him. ]

[Do you know what's a really big blow to someone's self-esteem. The girl considered the cutest and kindest recoiling while helping you try and be cute.

Though that throws her off, making her head jerk back up and tilt. Antenna flopping. Mouth opening for a second before she closes it, then speaks.]

[ What are these girls doing in their dorms while the guys fight with pillows (or something)? Are they dressing up all cute? This is a mysterious, forbidden world he's not allowed to traverse. ]
