Has anyone noticed if the people who arrived the other week have started going back yet? [Very blunt. So blunt, it almost sounds like she can't wait to be rid of them. But she's just wondering how long she has until Jean just disappears and she's alone again.

What happens when people return? Has it always happened out of sight?

Back home? Bread or oats if we had them... There are so many things to eat here.

[Perfectly normal breakfast items for some, though not usually on their own.]

Did you have to ration your meals or something?

Depended what we had... They used to. When I was younger we got a ration of bread every few days. It's better now though.

[Not every day, every few days. There were days without. It took awhile for the food shortages to even out.]

[If that's the way she grew up, he feels kind of bad telling her not to eat the food here. Whether or not it's made of people it has to be an amazing change for her.]

It's...peaceful here. I don't dislike it, but I'd rather not be here.

Peaceful? I suppose.

I've been told that time doesn't pass where we're from, but I think most of us would have been doing something before we arrived here.

I wasn't doing anything. At least nothing that can't be done without me.

Supposedly. I've been here a few months and not gone back home at all like some have...

Another student? Most of the people who come here seem to go to school for a long time. [Not her though. She was homeschooled till she was nine, then death happened.]

A student? Nah, I graduated several years ago.

[In most places, that would be a horrible thing to say. But she's used to 'don't work, then you don't get paid, then you starve' that was why she'd been nine and working the fields after Maria fell.]

If you're here for a while you should be able to find something.

Oh you know... I was hunting my own food for a while back home too.

[It typically ran on two legs, if it got the chance to run.]

I've only done that a few times. [Mostly because the Scouts were kinda poor for a long time. And it was a part of survival training. Though there were fewer hunters and more farmers nowadays.]

Try looking around. I'm the same... They pay you for the hours you're there so if you can't do it then don't go.

[She'd wanted to be a farmer. That didn't change that the main thing she knew was fighting, a thing she couldn't do much of here because of the Cywd.]

It depends on how long you think is long...They reckon it'll be a month at the most. But if you think you can go that long without buying food.

Well. Food isn't that hard to come by.

But if I wanted a better place to sleep and some decent luxuries I suppose I'd have to get on that.
