Has anyone noticed if the people who arrived the other week have started going back yet? [Very blunt. So blunt, it almost sounds like she can't wait to be rid of them. But she's just wondering how long she has until Jean just disappears and she's alone again.

What happens when people return? Has it always happened out of sight?

...That seems to be how people treat most things here. Not thinking too hard about it. [Though she was guilty of that as well.]

[She's better at remembering than he is, so he just makes a noise of agreement.] Probably. It's something a lotta people tell me.

Well... I figure it's a world full of actual magic and monsters that none've us are here from. What's thinking hard on it even gonna do for us, except run us in circles? I only got so much energy, so I'll focus it on gettin' by, instead of trying to understand.

That's what I've been doing. Whenever I think I understand something, I see another thing that changes that. [She huffs.] I've not heard of any of the monsters here, I've heard some people have stories about them.

You mean like myths and fables and whatever about the monster types? Yeah, we had some back home. I only know a couple, though, and I dunno how accurate they all are.

What kinda stories did you have back home?

We didn't really... We had creatures that ate humans already so no one made up stories about more.

[It lost entertainment value when it was a very real fear. ]

[i mean. Sure. It had to happen in SOME worlds.]

Guess I can understand that. We had monsters back home but they only ate people’s minds. You guys didn’t even have like.... happy stories or whatever?

Yes...Or in parts, depends on how big they are and if they can aim for their own mouths. Sometimes people lose limbs when they close their teeth...

...We had a nice one. About a crop that could grow well even in winter, so no one starved.
