[ Considering how long she's been here now and how... enthusiastic her Coven mentors have been about her finding a Bond, Yona's finally worked up the courage to try and use this strange device for herself and ask for some advice. ]

How did those of you who have made Bonds know that your partner was right for you? Was it just something casual and easy? Was it something deeper than that? Did you have a hard time finding someone when you first arrived?

[ Was that too intrusive? Insecure? She hopes not... ]

And those of you who haven't yet... what is it you're looking for?

Ah--not an uncommon issue, that. I know I was afraid of what my potential Bonded might find in me--and, [a moment's hesitation, because this is hard for him to talk about, too,] that they'd turn away from me for it.

like we'd had a few conversations and joked a bit but i didn't know a damn thing about him other than he was a deer, a witch, and seemed sane enough.

I think so. It gave me a lot to think about, at the very least. I suppose I should sit down and figure out who I would feel the most comfortable approaching for this...

Oh my goodness, that sounds incredible! They are more like creatures of legend where I come from. They dwell among the heavens with the gods and there are very few who can claim to have ever encountered them.

[ Although that's a little different from his dragons, but it makes them no less special. ]

They are - that's putting it lightly. But I don't know what I would have done without them.

I see. And when your bonds returned down to a manageable two, the problem resolved itself?

Although it sounds like the aftermath with your frayed bonds would be... messy?

[ She stares at those words for a long moment before replying. ]

You know, I hadn't even considered it like that, but you're absolutely right. I can still think of acquaintances - people I'd call friend, even - that I did not spend so long a time with, before I arrived here. I suppose giving it the title of 'bond' makes it feel a more lengthy commitment...

I think that if you walked up to anyone and asked them if they felt they deserved the people close to them, most of them - if not all - would say they don't deserve them either.

Someone's importance to us has nothing to do with what we deserve, but what need they meet in our lives. The hole they fill in our hearts. I think if we only had what we deserve, none of us would be very happy.

Maybe you haven't realized it yet, but I'm sure you match a need she has as well.

[ She's not sure how she would feel about that, either. BUt it sounds a little...comforting? ]

Which is what I wish to avoid, and why I sought advice in the first place. I appreciate your thoughts on it, though.

Have you and your bonded grown closer since you made this agreement?

Her voice softens, a small smile in her tone as she gives a quiet hum. ]

I think a great many of us have fears like that. But I'm glad your Bonded did not disappoint. [ She can hear the fondness in his voice when he speaks of it. ] I think that's a sign that you truly have found someone special.

I think I needed to understand what preferences I needed to prioritize, honestly. So many seemed to treat it very casually and others spoke of their bonded as if they'd found their soulmate. It gave me many new perspectives to consider, at the very least.

I think... I think to have so intimate a connection, I'd prefer something open. Something shared. Someone I trust to know me, to see me. Even though sometimes letting that happen can feel very scary. The rest... that just seems like details, of lesser import than the person themselves.

But you've become closer since then?

Indeed, and the nature of the connection doth render it more intense than a friendship formed otherwise. Yet in the end, 'tis a choice to trust some part of thyself to another, a choice born perhaps of necessity; such choices are certainly not unique to Aefenglom and its Coven. Thus it cannot be said to be a decision made lightly, and even if 'tis not a permanent Bond, 'twill surely become a memorable chapter of thy life's tale.

Was your first one someone you trusted before arriving here, or someone you came to know and trust afterward?

Did it take you very long to grow to feel that way?

[ She has to laugh a little at that, but to be fair, that is a common interest she can see people bonding over. ]

Do you still feel the same, now that you have a bonded of your own?

If that's all things you've learned since making your post... You've learned a lot! Actually... We're not so dissimilar in our demands, you and I.

[He doesn't even need to give his Secret Short List anymore, since she almost nailed it. Not explicitly, since it lacks the "I can't trust just anyone to know my history" qualifier...]

However. It took me six months to find a suitable Bondmate. I don't recommend it. Given that, I hope finding someone you can trust yourself to isn't too specialized a case! Ha-ha. You don't anticipate it to be so difficult, do you?

But the fact that you have someone you want to protect is important, I think. That's a very good reason to have a bonded.

I think that having found not one but three people who you trust to connect with this deeply is very fortunate indeed. I, too, can be difficult at times and while I don't try to keep many secrets, I don't trust easily either. I hope I only end up as fortunate as you in who I find.
