[ The man on the screen isn't (yet) changed to a monster, but he's got pointed ears, purple eyes, and is delicately inhuman in a half dozen small ways. He flashes fangs when he smiles. ]

I'm Kai. Nice to meet you, etcetera, etcetera.

I have a couple of questions, and I'm hoping some people will take pity on a new person.

[ He ticks up his fingers, question 1. ] What's a man got to do to find bullets around here?

[ He shows off one of his Glock pistols. ]

Secondly, how important is this bond thing? Is it actually necessary, or is it another bullshit institution that people think has power because they buy in to it? Like marriage, or honor.

Are the bullets in use with firearms here not suitable? [Please educate him, he doesn't know a flintlock from a modern weapon or anything that detailed.]

As far as the issue of Bonding is concerned, unfortunately there really is no choice in the matter one way or the other. I can hardly speak to the witch side of things, but surely you have no desire to act like some sort of beast?

No, they... [ Kai doesn't really know how to start with the education on topic. ] It's like expecting a car to run on oats instead of gasoline. Not gonna work.

[ At the question, Kai bares his teeth, showing off the fangs again. ] It wouldn't be that new for me.

I'd rather act like a beast than be under someone else's control.

[Listen, Jin Guangyao barely knows what a car is, although he's had it loosely described.] May I ask why not, as a matter of curiosity? These things from other worlds like 'cars' and 'guns' are quite curious, and I'm always eager to hear more of otherworldly technologies, even if they do not always work as planned here.

As for bonds, why do you think it puts you under another's control? There is an emotional connection, to be sure. But that is all. [That's actually a very big all but he'll pretend it's not such a big deal.]

[ Kai's not a good teacher, and he was already a little frustrated when he made this post. ] Same reason I can't eat metal filings. It's-- My guns are precision weapons and they need the right kind of bullet to go inside them. It's not impossible to do here, if someone's put time into having the right set up. Or magic. [ Fuck, he's actually suggesting relying on magic. ]

Emotional connections put you under other people's controls.

I think there are several craftspersons about who can probably help you with precision work, if that's the case. [he gestures slightly with his right hand... which is a bronze mechanical prosthetic, very neatly designed.] If none of them contact you directly I'm sure I can point you in the right direction.

[That's not entirely wrong, but... he smiles.] I think there's more than one type of connection, don't you? You'll find that there are a few sorts about who are willing to make it a more businesslike proposition, if you're concerned about influence one way or another.

Thanks, I'd appreciate that, if they don't speak up themselves.

Thought it helps people sense their moods and the coven talked about binding souls. That doesn't exactly sound like business to me.

Is the idea of others sensing your mood that concerning? [Asked in a more rhetorical sense because that sure is his own feeling on the issue. It's a real problem to be overcome! It's only that some of the benefits make up for some of the issues with his bonded.]

I'm sure you'll no doubt collect similar responses from other Mirrorbound. It does make things difficult at times, but then again, not all of us would rather be animals. There are ways to block off some of what passes from one to another as well.

The idea of other people having some sort of hold over me sure as hell is. [ Been there, done that, got the t-shirt - or at least the scars. ]

What sort of ways are there?

There are always temporary bonds, more easily broken. I would think, more conventional ways of dealing with a problematic bond situation as well. [Like drugging someone and keeping them imprisoned somewhere to keep them out of the way... not that he's ever thought about that... nope...]

Practice visualizing a barrier between yourself and the other person. And avoid touching directly, as it only increases the feelings passed between one another. It's not a perfect solution, but as advice I was once given, at seems at least somewhat effective.

Are you fortunate enough to have any others from your world here, by chance?

It wouldn't be fortunate to have them here. [ Kai can just imagine Ryder and what he'd do in this place, how concerned he'd be for Kai's well-being in that overbearing manner he has. And Ryder's by far the best option. ] None of the humans I know either, far as I can tell. [ Some of them might have been something of a relief, but they'd respond to this post if they saw it. ]

That takes that possibility out of the equation then.

I did see someone once mention that they ended up bonding to the first person they met who seemed equally threatened by the proposition of bonding. [He chuckles lightly.]

How'd that work out for him?

He said he'd made the right choice. [Ignoring all the other things that had been said. Jin Guangyao: snooping all over these network postings.]

Frankly I don't have any concern one way or another about a given Mirrorbound I've never met before. I would offer to assist, as someone who has no interest in controlling another, but I'm afraid my own Bonded did ask for my Bond to be with him alone. [And he's a Monster as well, so that hardly solves the problem. And he also isn't so fond of sharing his feelings, but at least he has an excuse there of commitment.]

Don't need your pity.

[ Kai lights a clove cigarette, takes a drag on it for a moment, before he remembers to be polite. ]

[Jin Guangyao appears entirely unfazed, still with that placid, pleasant expression. Blunt but not intentionally rude, he can handle easily.]

[He does hesitate briefly before adding another remark. If it feels like he's pushing bonding more than his initial 'no choice' let on...]

I suppose in that line of conversation, it may be worth mentioning that, well, feral behaviour can cause problems for others in the city as I'm sure you can imagine. Aside from the obvious consequences, it really reflects poorly on us as a group. So please understand that, even if you prefer that sort of bestial behaviour over Bonding, you would be well advised to keep it outside the city walls and away from those it might harm.

[ Kai runs his tongue over his teeth inside his mouth. ]

I get the picture. I'll make sure no one has to take me down.
