[ The man on the screen isn't (yet) changed to a monster, but he's got pointed ears, purple eyes, and is delicately inhuman in a half dozen small ways. He flashes fangs when he smiles. ]

I have a couple of questions, and I'm hoping some people will take pity on a new person.

[ He ticks up his fingers, question 1. ] What's a man got to do to find bullets around here?

[ He shows off one of his Glock pistols. ]

Secondly, how important is this bond thing? Is it actually necessary, or is it another bullshit institution that people think has power because they buy in to it? Like marriage, or honor.

They don't get to use their spells, if that's what you mean. The magic might enhance their own natural abilities.

[Not that he'd know much about that. He and Mello hadn't done nearly as much testing as he'd wanted with their bond after it had been formed.]

What if their natural abilities include being allergic to magic?

[ It's the best way Kai has to explain it, although it's of course more complicated than that. There's nothing natural about Kai at all. ]

Is your monster type allergic, or is this something from before? I was under the impression that most magic from whatever previous world you lived in didn't carry over to this one.

[But again this is something he only knows a little about, as no one from his world had any magic to begin with. They hadn't brought along any shinigami or their notebooks.]

I don't know. I don't feel any different about anything else. Not sure how I feel about testing it.

How much magic would it take to upset your allergy? Because I would think we're surrounded by a decent amount of it here.

Fine, allergy was a poor description.

My people can't handle the touch of raw iron, it burns and scars us. That much is still true in this place. I have residual iron dust in some old wounds. It's not usually a problem, as long as I avoid magic. It's, as far as I know, only an issue when it's cast on me, but that's not something I make a habit of testing.

You'll have to test it at some point. I don't recommend allowing yourself to go feral if you can help it.

[Near isn't exactly the best one to be giving advice in this area, but that doesn't make what he's saying any less true.]

Do you know what sort of monster you are?

Nope. Guess I'll find out soon?

The speed at which one changes varies from person to person, but it shouldn't be too long before you start to get some idea.

Great. I better not be a fucking dragon.

Not fond of dragons?

I would have thought there would be a lot of people who would prefer them.

[At least they would be seen as preferable to becoming a naga.]

The elfin where I'm from, they worship them. That's all a bunch of bullshit.

My relationship with them is more complicated, and I don't want to make it more so.

Then let's hope whoever or whatever decides what monsters we become doesn't enjoy a bit of irony.

There any rhyme to what kind of monsters we do become? Any way to predict it?

[ It might affect how dangerous he'd be, how much becoming feral would be a problem for others. ]
