Where I'm from, everyone is infected with nanomachines. They're used to track us and keep everyone under control.

And in some rare cases, they can cause death. But not intentionally.

True. It would complicate things if our original powers were stripped from us, but our ailments didn't. I consider myself lucky since I was never really ill before my arrival.

I was. It's a little complicated.

I was dying, if I had to put it simply. My body shutting down little by little until...[Until he fell asleep and didn't wake up.] The only symptom I showed was exhaustion.

I don't think so. People back home all have these nanomachines inside our bodies so that they can track us.

If something was gonna happen to me, it probably should've happened by now.

Imagine a piece of shit government, or a corrupt mega-corporation.

They're on top of the world with nobody to challenge them.

How do you hold on to that power?

By taking it away from everyone else.

By reminding everyone of who's in charge, and that they know what you're doing. Always.

And there's a few benefits to that.

For starters, I can actually live comfortably and not have to worry about paying a $10,000 monthly rent.

In a manner of speaking, I have one. I think it cleared up when I arrived here since I lost a few other things too along with it. I'm about 70-80% sure it's gone though.

My powers, all of them. I've essentially become human again which meant I had to do make some adjustments to get used to my strength and speed again.

Some people became human when they made it here, while others ended up turning into something else.

Funny how that worked out.

Hilarious, I'm sure. I personally still have no idea what to feel about becoming human again but, no offense to those who are became monsters, am glad I'm not turning into one. I'm a demon slayer in my world so, the sight of werewolves, harpies, chimeras, and the like set off a lot of alarm bells for me. It took me a long time before I managed to curve my 'kill-the-scary-looking-thing' reaction.
