Having fur for people to pet all the time is kinda odd. But people like petting furry things! And furry things like getting petted on, mostly!

Monsters are not quite human, yet not quite animal. They're in this odd realm where instincts and logic coexist. As an aside, this is why I prefer costumes over the real thing. A man wearing cat ears is simply a human playing at being a creature, whereas a true werewolf is an entirely different story. Your method of approach would be completely different.
