[That's a distinctive nasally tone coming in over the voice channel this fine morning.] Hi. Hey. It's Hiccup. I'm, uh- Hello to the newest arrivals. This is partly to uh- sometimes we don't always, show up with everything we'd like to have, so if you plan to go past the wall and don't have weapons or armor, I run the Forge just outside town with Percy. We're both smiths and we do commission work, so- you know. If you need anything. We also do enchantments! Mostly me.

But-! That's not, really what I'm here for today. [He has more important priorities right now than advertising the Forge.] I thought I'd try asking around, since- Well. I need to find a Bond, or potential Bond, for my friend. Preferably a Monster, but uh, at this point even a Witch would be better than nothing. My friend is- a little irritable sometimes, but he's a really good guy, and he's very talented and smart, and has some pretty neat hobbies. They should be patient and have a sense of humor, and be willing to keep him from working too hard once in a while. To- to be a friend.

So, um. Let me know, and I can set you up to see if things work out! [A pause.] This really is for a friend, by the way, not... not me. [Yeah that's convincing. He manages to tell the truth and still sound like he's being avoidant of the truth somehow.]

Ah, no, the bond search. You know, in case other people need to do something similar for their friends.

Oh, oh- Well, nothing yet so far, but- I'll keep you posted. You know someone who's being difficult about bonding too?

Mm, it's probably not fair to call them difficult. I'm just worried that they'll take too much time coming around to the idea.

You can push longer than you might think, but eventually... It takes a toll. I was starting to feel it myself before I bonded with my partner. I couldn't sleep, I was irritable, my magic kept backfiring. It was a little over four months at that point, I think?

[four months...okay, so there's still time. not a lot, but some.]

So what made your partner the one? Was it largely necessity by that point or something else?

Newt was- I think I got lucky. Newt was always going to be the one. [That was long before they started dating, but Newt was still his closest confidante at the time.] I really trusted him. With everything. Asking was out of necessity because I couldn't keep going like that, but who I asked... There was no one else I would have gone to.

Which makes this probably a ridiculous idea, but he's gone longer than I did. [Desperate times, desperate measures.]

I guess not everyone's as lucky.

[as lucky as hiccup, and lucky as wei wuxian. it's sad, and it must be a little scary.]

I wonder what I would've done if Lan Zhan wasn't here.

[it's so soft, it's almost to himself. he shakes his head, not wanting to think about it.]

Something good is going to come of this, I can feel it!

Unfortunately not. I don't think it's all that common to meet the right person right away. [If it was, he's sure Percy would have a Bond by now. The man deserves one, someone who will be a good friend to him.

Still, he laughs quietly at that exclamation.] I hope so! And I hope so for your friend, too.
