[That's a distinctive nasally tone coming in over the voice channel this fine morning.] Hi. Hey. It's Hiccup. I'm, uh- Hello to the newest arrivals. This is partly to uh- sometimes we don't always, show up with everything we'd like to have, so if you plan to go past the wall and don't have weapons or armor, I run the Forge just outside town with Percy. We're both smiths and we do commission work, so- you know. If you need anything. We also do enchantments! Mostly me.
But-! That's not, really what I'm here for today. [He has more important priorities right now than advertising the Forge.] I thought I'd try asking around, since- Well. I need to find a Bond, or potential Bond, for my friend. Preferably a Monster, but uh, at this point even a Witch would be better than nothing. My friend is- a little irritable sometimes, but he's a really good guy, and he's very talented and smart, and has some pretty neat hobbies. They should be patient and have a sense of humor, and be willing to keep him from working too hard once in a while. To- to be a friend.
So, um. Let me know, and I can set you up to see if things work out! [A pause.] This really is for a friend, by the way, not... not me. [Yeah that's convincing. He manages to tell the truth and still sound like he's being avoidant of the truth somehow.]

Okay.
( she won't hold her breath. )

( also way to not appreciate her sound advice about romance, pal!!!
she's definitely forgotten that conversation. )
Uh, the other thing though—what kind of enchantments? And do they have to be on something you're making, or could you enchant something that Percy had already made?
no subject
There are too many possible enchantments out there to list. I just- work out what the person wants and then figure out how to do it. I can enchant anything, not just my own pieces.

So you could add a protective ward or something like that to a piece of—I guess it's armor? Do you want to see what I'm talking about?
( oblivious to his actual dislike, she's just assuming he's weird. being weird is not a disqualifying trait for someone she thinks could help her. )

Protective against what? Blunt force, magical attacks, the Cwyld? [Enchantments, he's found, tend to work better when they're more focused.] Sure, send me a picture.
no subject
( those things all sound like what she wants, thank you. )
All those, anything else you can think of. Give me a quote for what it would all cost and how feasible it would be and I'll figure it—come here, baby—nyet, nyet, nyet—
( about halfway through, it becomes visual. the dog is enormous. he looks like a bear fucked a wolf, and to judge by the oddly shimmering and slender hands arranging him in the frame he must weigh at least twice what his owner does, and he's wearing leather crafted by percy to wrap around his midsection and draw up over his head. his collar is beneath it, and his leash dangling. )
There we go, show the man your fancy jacket, fancy boy.

He raises a brow.] Dog armor. Not the first time dog armor has come out of my forge, actually. [He made a whole set for Lex's dog a while back.]
It'll take at least a month, month and a half. The anti-Cwyld spells especially are a higher level, along with working in the rest. I'd also recommend getting an opal or a precious stone of some kind to act as the battery for the enchantment. It'll require a fair bit of power when activated.

Is opal the sort you'd recommend or is there something better? I can figure out the financial side of it, I just need to know what's the best option. Are there particular enchantments you'd recommend that are more focused and—
( how to put it. )
He's not going into battle, or anything, he doesn't need armor for trying to bollock the Cwyld or anything, probably, but you just never know what's going to happen here.
( he's a guard dog; he has been trained since he was a puppy to guard her as his first instinct. after the rathmores, the vampire attack weeks before that—gwen worries that he'll try to protect her from something he can't, and get hurt himself. )

[In the background, the distant scritch of charcoal against paper as he puts down a few notes, like he always does when taking a commission.] If you don't take him outside the wall, it's- what specifically are you worried about? I need an idea of how to tailor this enchantment.
no subject
( probably it would be sensible to also pursue some manner of protection for herself, but whatever, she'll figure that out, her special boy tho. )
no subject
Look, I get it. My- my dragons are here. My Bonded has several of his creatures here with him. I'd never want anything to happen to them. But I need- an idea of what you want this spell to protect against, unless you only want the generalized wards, which, yeah are not as strong, but- [But he needs something to go off of.]
no subject
( relenting: ) Generalized wards are fine, I don't know a specific thing that I'm worried about. You know, you're not expecting anything until it actually happens. Anything that makes him a little bit safer is good.
( better than nothing. )
