Hi. I'm Elliot Craig. It's nice to meet you all, even if the circumstances aren't, well, great?

Anyway, I was wondering a couple things and this seemed like the place to ask.

1. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a violin? If there's a store or a place I could barter for one, that'd be really great. I tried conjuring one, but all I got were recorders. Guess I need more practice.

2. On a related note, is there anywhere I can donate a bunch of recorders?

3. Is there anyone that recognizes the name "Erebonia"? Or "Zemuria"? If you don't, that's okay. I'm just wondering if there's anyone else from my world.

4. And finally, does anyone know how you go about finding someone to make a Bond with? For some reason the townspeople I ask keep acting like it's this really personal thing, but I don't really know anyone here and I definitely don't wanna explode. So what do I do?

A witch and their familiar's relationship is considered by many to be not only symbiotic, but deeply intimate as well. When the first wave of refugees arrived, we were all given rooms that were used by those who had bonded with each other.

Well then it's a little awkward they kept recommending bonds to us.

I'll sleep on the floor? I don't mind. Anything not to explode.

It is, but I suspect that things are seen differently here than they are where either of us are from. But you have the right idea, bonding is suggested because it is the easiest way to keep a witch's power from backfiring on them, or to keep a monster from going feral.

I imagine there are ways to work around it, especially since we aren't native to this world.

You're not going to explode. At least, not right away? There are supposedly warning signs. I went almost a whole month without a Bond and I probably could have gone longer, since I've been practicing regularly. As long as you're cycling your magic like the teachers said, and you're not getting too emotional, you'll be fine on your own for a while.

You could also look into getting a familiar.

But what if there's a time where I can't cycle my magic or practice? Disruptions happen. And it's a little hard NOT to be emotional when you've fallen into another world and told you could explode.

I thought about that, but I'm a musician. A musician without their main instrument no less. I'm still figuring out how I'll make ends meet for myself, much less what it'd cost to keep a familiar happy.

You could do what I did and use all your magic so you're bedridden for a few days.

... Seriously, though, it's not all going to come tumbling down tomorrow. You're freaked out, I get it, but you're also catastrophizing instead of channeling that energy into something constructive. You're literally making it worse for yourself.

Instead of focusing on what you don't have or can't do, think about what you CAN do.

Let's start with practicing magic. Which classes are you interested in? Do you have a study partner?

and then you have to touch each other a lot to do the magic transfer or whatever
but I could deal with that
it's the whole "you know what the person you're bonded with is feeling" thing that's the weirdest part!

This may seem like a wild idea, but have you tried using the recorders as material for building your own violin?

It would likely only construct the body, of course, but it would be a good way to recycle them!

Building a violin is a very fine craft though. It's way beyond my skill level.

Besides, I'd have to find a violin mold, and it'd probably be easier just to find a violin.

Well, it was just a suggestion, really. I tend to look for magic-based solutions most of the time. You have to admit, it'd be cheaper.

Oh, I never thought about that! I started playing the piano recently and I would hate for all my practice to go to waste!

But I get the feeling that making a piano would be even harder than a violin.

Definitely harder. But it's such a popular instrument that there's gotta be one in town.

Not very long! I'd actually just finished a song I'd been working on.

But I really hope I get to play again! I'd like to be able to improve since I'm still not very good at all.

The Shopping District would be the first place I'd look to outright buy a musical instrument; if you're hoping to trade work for one in more used condition, you might want to see if someone at the music halls in the Entertainment District might be interested.

As for recorders ... you could consider donating it to the witches heading to Aefenglom's outskirts. They're always looking for things to help brighten it up out there.
