Hey. Name's Juza Hyodo. Thanks to the guys in the council that managed to get theater unbanned, I 'preciate that a lot. I was an actor back home 'nd now I can do that here too. [Without committing theater crimes.]

This is a general ask for help. We need a script writer 'nd somebody who can create costumes. 'm okay with a needle 'n thread. Can't help much with writin'.

[Too far out of his wheelhouse.

He's not sure what else to say so he'll end it there.]

Thanks for listening.

I could probably help with some of the costumes if you need anything knitted or, like, regular clothes. I don't know how well I'd do with anything fancy, though.

And you probably don't want me coming anywhere near a script. Trust me.

This might be a dumb question but can't you just use a play that already exists? Is there a reason you gotta do a new one?

[ Maybe there's some rule about it or a convention or who knows? It just seems way easier to use a play that already exists rather than finding someone with literary talent and putting yourself in their hands. ]

It's my pleasure! I never thought I'd say this but I kind of actually miss knitting, a little bit.
braidmage: (:) too cute)

[personal profile] braidmage 2020-05-14 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if you haven't got it memorized, you probably remember a bunch of plays that you saw or performed, right? It might not be word for word, but I bet you could recreate them, and it's not big deal if it's not exactly the same, right? I mean, who is gonna know the difference!

[ He sounds so excited by the idea, he really does think he is helping, by suggesting this... ]

What?! No way. I grew up on a sheep farm. We sold raw wool and yarn and stuff but we made clothes to sell, too. Knitting was, like, this tedious chore I would've never ever imagined missing. Ten year old me is really disgusted right now, believe me.
braidmage: (:( uneasy thoughts)

[personal profile] braidmage 2020-05-14 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. I guess not.

[ Shoot. He'd thought it was a really clever idea. But then, he's hardly an expert on theater - apparently getting all the details just right is important. ]

It's too bad. I was kinda curious about plays from another world.

[ He sounds a bit forlorn, when he admits that, but then Reynir's voice brightens as he goes on: ]

But a new play would be cool, too. And there's got to be somebody in this city that's an aspiring writer, right?

[ Reynir can't help wondering, when Juza says that, what familiar things he might be missing, living in this pervasively weird place. It's a little easier, being disconnected from his home, knowing that so many other people here are feeling the same way. ]

I guess that must be it. It's different, when you're away from home and it's not a lame boring thing you have to do.
braidmage: (:) things looking up)

[personal profile] braidmage 2020-05-16 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, I'm sure you'll find somebody soon enough! This place is huge, there have to be a few writers in all these people.

[ To someone as painfully rural as Reynir, Aefenglom is enormous and extremely cosmopolitan. There have GOT to be some competent playwrights in the mix... ]

That's something we've got in common, for sure. Well, not the missing it.

[ Scholarly pursuits had never been a strength of Reynir's. ]

Hey, so this is a crazy idea, but maybe you'll get more writers to come forward if you arrange it like it's a contest or something? That way, if a lot of people volunteer, you've got an easy way of turning down the crappy plays, and you might get more submissions if people think they can, like, win.
braidmage: (:) scheming face)

[personal profile] braidmage 2020-05-24 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
There's a first time for everything, right?

[ And perhaps this is an area where he can actually help. ]

I was in charge of running a few in our village. Baking contests... bets on how many lambs would be born in a season... and speed-shearing, obviously.

[ OBVIOUSLY. If Juza was in any doubt, Reynir's extremely rural roots are getting more and more obvious. But he has to work with the experience he has. ]

Anyway, yeah, coming up with the prize is half the fun! It doesn't have to be something expensive. Just something they can brag about and sound impressive to their friends!

First of all: congratulations on not having to resort to criminal activity to pursue your preferred career and/or hobby. When Giorno first started bringing home drafts of that motion, you were one of the first people who came to mind. Are you looking to put on an entirely original production?

I'm not creative. But I'm competent enough at clothing alteration, if someone else provides the design. Do you have someone keeping track of the logistics? Renting the building, advertisement, making sure everything is properly permitted, budgeting, etc. That sort of stuff.

There's a Mirrorbound who runs a sort of... well it's not a bookstore. It's more like a library. You should visit and ask the owner if he has any plays in his collection.

It's mostly just staying organized. You know, with lists and schedules and things. I would start with a notebook. Or a three ring binder, but I'm not sure they've been invented here yet.

Are you planning to perform?
unholey: (HOODIE ☠ I'm always dragging)

[personal profile] unholey 2020-05-17 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I don't remember his name. I just remember the post he made this past fall when he opened. On the subject of libraries: you could also try Undermael College.

What sort of roles do you usually perform?

[personal profile] unholey 2020-05-20 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's right. I don't know what their rules are for viewing/checking out material, but I can't imagine they'd keep people out from just looking out.

The stoic type, huh. Yeah, I can picture that better than you as the comic relief.

They're just schools. But since they're not babysitting a bunch of children, there are (usually) much fewer rules about who can and can't be on campus.

Your cousin, huh. Does your family have an interest in acting, or is it a shared hobby between the two of you?
unholey: (CHATTER ☠ like old friends)

[personal profile] unholey 2020-05-25 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Who knows. Maybe he has a secret talent. When he discovers it, the three of you can put on a comedy/drama/misc. genre play. It'll be the next big hit in the world of theater.

Oh, I see. Baseball. I know that one.

[It's the American sport that isn't football under another name, That's Not Fucking Football, or the one with the baskets.]

Is it a talent sort of thing, or disposition? "Have a hard time" doesn't seem like a lack of interest.
unholey: (AH ☠ you've given me another chance)

[personal profile] unholey 2020-06-09 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
That's an interesting way to phrase it. That you didn't have talent to "start out". Usually most people would describe talent as an innate quality vs. something that can be developed.

Sorry, that was a tangent. Back to your brother. Does he attend your shows?

[What's this? A potential opportunity to flex her lv 80 weaver seamstress skills? Seems like it could be!]

Well, if you know what you're in need of when it comes to costumes I can create pretty much anything!

[For, y'know, a price.]

[Only it's a brag she can make good on.]

Well when you find out let me know! I'd be happy to design and make a few outfits to be shown on stage. I also know a few other ladies that would be happy to assist me depending on the scale of production.

[Thinkin' about Mikasa and Bernie. Gotta rep little ladies, okay.]
seemstressed: (08)

[personal profile] seemstressed 2020-05-15 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Bernadetta and Mikasa are their names. Both of them are deft with their fingers and a needle. As for myself I'm Tataru Taru! But just Tataru is fine.

[Uh. Yeah. A bit of a tongue twister.]

They're both a bit shy and timid in their own right but I think a creative project of sorts would do both of them a bit of good! I know I could get them to work with me.

[More like Tataru knows how to get her way through various...means...it's fine.]

I also have a friend who is quite the storyteller even though he can be a bit...wordy. [Understatement of the century when it comes to Urianger.] He might be interested in a creative project too, so to speak.

Is she a Fae? If so then yes.

His name is Urianger, a friend of mine from Eorzea. His way of speaking is a bit proper and old fashioned but he's well-read, more so than anyone I know. It's more common to find his nose stuck in a book than not.

[get ready for A LOT OF METTATON-BRAND WORDS, he's clearly quite excitable about the topic.]

Isn't it one of the more remarkable of things to happen to Aefenglom?? The unbanning of theater. I've been here for nearly a year, and... It's about time!!

[What Mettaton says next is a bit quieter, but carries a note of amusement to it:] (Not that the punishment was so bad, really. A bit of community service. Ha.)

Anyway. Congratulations! ...For the both of us! Since I'm a performer, myself. I've made quite a few connections within the city, and know none better than Amadeus to draft up a performance. He was the one who hosted the opera many months prior to the legalization of theater. Disguising a play within an opera... It was a brilliant idea! But I'm always on the lookout for other HOT TALENTS. Should I chance upon more stellar script writers, in need of an actor... I'll keep you in mind, gorgeous.

But when it comes to costumes, I can't recommend Tataru Taru enough. She can make you anything your heart desires! In any shape, in any size. And, she could only get better and better, as a learning Witch! I have the highest hopes for her talent to take on dimensions unprecedented in a setting like this, where she can entwine her thread work with magic!
glitzandglamour: (💣019)

[personal profile] glitzandglamour 2020-06-04 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
[It's not a year without theater if you break the law. And do community service for it. Juza's got the right idea...]

Yes. Opera is essentially that... And it was one of the only ways we could try to "get around" the ban, since singing was allowed! It was the act of performing a storyline that wasn't.

Surely you think you could muster up a singing voice, darling. You've a nice voice! And with all other facets of theater... It's not so different, when you think about it. Personally, I prefer musicals to opera, though. More chance for dialogue, with numbers dispersed throughout!
glitzandglamour: (💣042)

[personal profile] glitzandglamour 2020-06-04 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh... I like your determination!

[His voice is fond, on that note. Not mocking, even though he laughs.]

Well. With these new opportunities set out before us... Perhaps I'll get a chance to hear your voice in song. With a fiery confidence like that, I believe you one-hundred percent!

That aside. Are you disappointed about the caveat at all, to legalizing theater? That you're prohibited from using magic... and that we have to get approval from the City Guard. What are your thoughts?
glitzandglamour: (💣026)

[personal profile] glitzandglamour 2020-06-07 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. I can see it being a non-issue for someone without any magical properties... Well! I'm hopeful for the same. Since I'm a Puca, there are a number of talents I could bust out that could be a real interesting addition to my act.

[And here, Mettaton imitates Juza's voice down to a T. He takes on a more sober, clipped quality. But he doesn't know Juza's personality perfectly, so there's something not quite right about its cadence... But the sound of it is perfect:] Nothin' I couldn't achieve before, but it's a neat gimmick. It's vocal mimicry.

[He's talking for himself, intentionally, but in Juza's voice. He resumes speaking in his velvety tone.]

I'm a robot... So it's not like I couldn't do that before. But it's even better now! What do you think? Worth getting magic legalized, right??
glitzandglamour: (💣046)

[personal profile] glitzandglamour 2020-06-07 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes!! I'm a Puca! Puca... excel at impersonation. We can shapeshift and imitate voices! A complimentary talent to my preexisting capabilities... Given that I've always been able to perform sound processing.

[He has no idea that it falls outside of Juza's realm of expectations for magic, but he couldn't blame him if he knew. Magic in itself is a specific thing where he's from. To hear that people here could use it to teleport, conjure items, and change shape struck him as fantastical.]

It's the kind of magic some Monsters inherently possess. For example, Fae can create illusions.
glitzandglamour: (💣145)

[personal profile] glitzandglamour 2020-06-09 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Right? [Mettaton sounds truly put out about that.] Special effects and post production both make a huge difference. Going without... Well. It's proving to be a chore. Alas.

But have faith, darling. Magic will be our next great step! And when I think about it... the magic found performed by Witches in Aefenglom might be an incredible asset to any show. They can even enchant clothes! I doubt we'll be without the usual fare forever, and then some.
