Hey. Name's Juza Hyodo. Thanks to the guys in the council that managed to get theater unbanned, I 'preciate that a lot. I was an actor back home 'nd now I can do that here too. [Without committing theater crimes.]
This is a general ask for help. We need a script writer 'nd somebody who can create costumes. 'm okay with a needle 'n thread. Can't help much with writin'.
[Too far out of his wheelhouse.
He's not sure what else to say so he'll end it there.]
Thanks for listening.
[ooc: Fourth walls welcome!]

And you probably don't want me coming anywhere near a script. Trust me.
no subject
[Man, where's a Tsuzuru type when you need one?]
Any help is good at this point. Thanks.
no subject
[ Maybe there's some rule about it or a convention or who knows? It just seems way easier to use a play that already exists rather than finding someone with literary talent and putting yourself in their hands. ]
It's my pleasure! I never thought I'd say this but I kind of actually miss knitting, a little bit.
no subject
[The only one that he's been part of so far.
Also Mankai's resident scriptwriter has absolutely spoiled them.]
That your hobby? You could still do it without a reason to, right?
no subject
[ He sounds so excited by the idea, he really does think he is helping, by suggesting this... ]
What?! No way. I grew up on a sheep farm. We sold raw wool and yarn and stuff but we made clothes to sell, too. Knitting was, like, this tedious chore I would've never ever imagined missing. Ten year old me is really disgusted right now, believe me.
no subject
[He's also only watched so many plays. A lot of them were so long ago that he couldn't manage to piece those together. Their first play wouldn't make much sense without a small aside to explain why the main character started caring about his partner.
If he tried to cobble something together, he doesn't think it would be good.]
Guess when everything's weird somethin' familiar's nice.
no subject
[ Shoot. He'd thought it was a really clever idea. But then, he's hardly an expert on theater - apparently getting all the details just right is important. ]
It's too bad. I was kinda curious about plays from another world.
[ He sounds a bit forlorn, when he admits that, but then Reynir's voice brightens as he goes on: ]
But a new play would be cool, too. And there's got to be somebody in this city that's an aspiring writer, right?
[ Reynir can't help wondering, when Juza says that, what familiar things he might be missing, living in this pervasively weird place. It's a little easier, being disconnected from his home, knowing that so many other people here are feeling the same way. ]
I guess that must be it. It's different, when you're away from home and it's not a lame boring thing you have to do.
no subject
[Because he wants to act and get back on stage, but they need a script for that. Otherwise they're just doing sketches.
There's a little pause before he admits.]
I kinda miss homework and I always sucked at it.
no subject
[ To someone as painfully rural as Reynir, Aefenglom is enormous and extremely cosmopolitan. There have GOT to be some competent playwrights in the mix... ]
That's something we've got in common, for sure. Well, not the missing it.
[ Scholarly pursuits had never been a strength of Reynir's. ]
Hey, so this is a crazy idea, but maybe you'll get more writers to come forward if you arrange it like it's a contest or something? That way, if a lot of people volunteer, you've got an easy way of turning down the crappy plays, and you might get more submissions if people think they can, like, win.
no subject
[Or been part of one.]
There's usually some kind of prize, right? It's not just the feel good part of winnin'. There's more to it, least when I noticed them back home.
no subject
[ And perhaps this is an area where he can actually help. ]
I was in charge of running a few in our village. Baking contests... bets on how many lambs would be born in a season... and speed-shearing, obviously.
[ OBVIOUSLY. If Juza was in any doubt, Reynir's extremely rural roots are getting more and more obvious. But he has to work with the experience he has. ]
Anyway, yeah, coming up with the prize is half the fun! It doesn't have to be something expensive. Just something they can brag about and sound impressive to their friends!
no subject
[Juza's not judging him for the rural roots, at least. He has no idea what it's like to work on a farm, but it sure sounds like a lot of work.
There's a soft little noise.]
Huh... Guess I'll ask around for that too. [Or he'll ask Omi about it, because that man has so many different hobbies that he might have something lying around.]

I'm not creative. But I'm competent enough at clothing alteration, if someone else provides the design. Do you have someone keeping track of the logistics? Renting the building, advertisement, making sure everything is properly permitted, budgeting, etc. That sort of stuff.
no subject
To be honest, I don't know how to do that kind of thing. As for permits, it seems like as long as we tell the city guard what we're doing, that's enough. The rest of it though... Dunno where to start.
[Wow he misses Mankai and all of the talent there.]
no subject
It's mostly just staying organized. You know, with lists and schedules and things. I would start with a notebook. Or a three ring binder, but I'm not sure they've been invented here yet.
Are you planning to perform?
no subject
[Without most of the company it falls to Omi and Juza to do it themselves. And Omi's already so busy, Juza will make an attempt to keep track of everything.] I'll look for one.
Yeah. I wanna. Been a while since we've done a full play.
no subject
What sort of roles do you usually perform?
no subject
[He's had all of one role so far...]
Uh... usually the stoic type.
[Really matches his image. And despite him not being aware of it, it does match the description of his first three roles.]
no subject
The stoic type, huh. Yeah, I can picture that better than you as the comic relief.
no subject
Comedy's real hard. My cousin does more of it.
no subject
Your cousin, huh. Does your family have an interest in acting, or is it a shared hobby between the two of you?
no subject
[ha.ha.ha.]

[It's the American sport that isn't football under another name, That's Not Fucking Football, or the one with the baskets.]
Is it a talent sort of thing, or disposition? "Have a hard time" doesn't seem like a lack of interest.
no subject
... Guess I'd say it's disposition. Ain't like I had talent startin' out. It was a lot of hardwork to get to a beginner's level.
no subject
Sorry, that was a tangent. Back to your brother. Does he attend your shows?
no subject
Yeah. When he doesn't have practice, he watches with our parents.

lv 80 weaverseamstress skills? Seems like it could be!]Well, if you know what you're in need of when it comes to costumes I can create pretty much anything!
[For, y'know, a price.]
no subject
[That brag sounds a lot like Yuki though, and of course he's going to pay people for labor. They aren't all part of the same theater company here.]
no subject
Well when you find out let me know! I'd be happy to design and make a few outfits to be shown on stage. I also know a few other ladies that would be happy to assist me depending on the scale of production.
[Thinkin' about Mikasa and Bernie. Gotta rep little ladies, okay.]
no subject
Right now it's just two actors from home here permanently and he's not sure how much he can do. If they had a script, they might be able to do more and do a bit of casting.]
Yeah? Who are they?
no subject
[Uh. Yeah. A bit of a tongue twister.]
They're both a bit shy and timid in their own right but I think a creative project of sorts would do both of them a bit of good! I know I could get them to work with me.
[More like Tataru knows how to get her way through various...means...it's fine.]
I also have a friend who is quite the storyteller even though he can be a bit...wordy. [Understatement of the century when it comes to Urianger.] He might be interested in a creative project too, so to speak.
no subject
Who's your storyteller friend? Haven't seen any writers yet.
no subject
His name is Urianger, a friend of mine from Eorzea. His way of speaking is a bit proper and old fashioned but he's well-read, more so than anyone I know. It's more common to find his nose stuck in a book than not.
no subject
Dunno how well I can pull off proper, but if that's the script I'll do as much as I can. I'd appreciate meetin' him.
no subject
Sure! I can put you in contact with him.
voice; un: METTATON
Isn't it one of the more remarkable of things to happen to Aefenglom?? The unbanning of theater. I've been here for nearly a year, and... It's about time!!
[What Mettaton says next is a bit quieter, but carries a note of amusement to it:] (Not that the punishment was so bad, really. A bit of community service. Ha.)
Anyway. Congratulations! ...For the both of us! Since I'm a performer, myself. I've made quite a few connections within the city, and know none better than Amadeus to draft up a performance. He was the one who hosted the opera many months prior to the legalization of theater. Disguising a play within an opera... It was a brilliant idea! But I'm always on the lookout for other HOT TALENTS. Should I chance upon more stellar script writers, in need of an actor... I'll keep you in mind, gorgeous.
But when it comes to costumes, I can't recommend Tataru Taru enough. She can make you anything your heart desires! In any shape, in any size. And, she could only get better and better, as a learning Witch! I have the highest hopes for her talent to take on dimensions unprecedented in a setting like this, where she can entwine her thread work with magic!
no subject
Ain't... operas basically plays with a lot more singin'? [He has only a very vague idea of what an opera is about.]
That's great. I dunno exactly what we're gonna do yet, but knowin' she can make a wide range helps a lot.
no subject
Yes. Opera is essentially that... And it was one of the only ways we could try to "get around" the ban, since singing was allowed! It was the act of performing a storyline that wasn't.
Surely you think you could muster up a singing voice, darling. You've a nice voice! And with all other facets of theater... It's not so different, when you think about it. Personally, I prefer musicals to opera, though. More chance for dialogue, with numbers dispersed throughout!
no subject
[He does have the best voice in Autumn troupe, even if he rarely uses it outside of karaoke competitions. That doesn't mean he's ever really tried to act and sing at the same time, which seems like a challenge.]
Never been in a musical or an opera, I'm willin' to try anything.
no subject
[His voice is fond, on that note. Not mocking, even though he laughs.]
Well. With these new opportunities set out before us... Perhaps I'll get a chance to hear your voice in song. With a fiery confidence like that, I believe you one-hundred percent!
That aside. Are you disappointed about the caveat at all, to legalizing theater? That you're prohibited from using magic... and that we have to get approval from the City Guard. What are your thoughts?
no subject
[It's very clear he doesn't think of himself that way. As far as he's concerned he's just saying it the way he sees it.]
Uh... I don't have magic, so that part ain't a problem. It's been outlawed for a while, so it kinda makes sense why they want to be aware of any performances goin' on. 'm interested in seeing plays with magic, but maybe they'll let that happen after they haven't had any problems for a couple've months.
no subject
[And here, Mettaton imitates Juza's voice down to a T. He takes on a more sober, clipped quality. But he doesn't know Juza's personality perfectly, so there's something not quite right about its cadence... But the sound of it is perfect:] Nothin' I couldn't achieve before, but it's a neat gimmick. It's vocal mimicry.
[He's talking for himself, intentionally, but in Juza's voice. He resumes speaking in his velvety tone.]
I'm a robot... So it's not like I couldn't do that before. But it's even better now! What do you think? Worth getting magic legalized, right??
no subject
Weird. [He wonders if one of his dorm mates back home could also manage to do the same thing.]
That's really magic? [He was thinking of like healing and shielding and that kind of thing being magic.]
no subject
[He has no idea that it falls outside of Juza's realm of expectations for magic, but he couldn't blame him if he knew. Magic in itself is a specific thing where he's from. To hear that people here could use it to teleport, conjure items, and change shape struck him as fantastical.]
It's the kind of magic some Monsters inherently possess. For example, Fae can create illusions.
no subject
[As far as Juza's aware magic is just slight of hand and redirecting attention back home. Actual magic is a lot to deal with.]
Shapeshiftin' and illusions... I'd wanna see that on stage some time. Special effects can be a pain to when you don't have the supplies for 'em.
no subject
But have faith, darling. Magic will be our next great step! And when I think about it... the magic found performed by Witches in Aefenglom might be an incredible asset to any show. They can even enchant clothes! I doubt we'll be without the usual fare forever, and then some.
