[ Hello there, network! It's a face that many of you haven't seen for awhile, he thinks. This time, there's no chaos attached to this post. ]

Hard to believe it's been a year here. Is this the sort of anniversary someone celebrates? It's my 'Abducted to a strange planet' anniversary. Maybe I'll get someone [ ahem ] to make a cake or something. Castella is my favorite, by the way.

So those who have been here for awhile, what have you learned since arriving? If you're ... newer, what do you hope to learn?

Personally, I learned that despite monsters being a big thing: deer with fingers are still a novelty. Oh, and pet ownership is still weird to me. I don't think it'll ever not be weird.

[ There's a small quirk of the corner of his mouth, and the slightest, small smile when he makes the offer. It's reminiscent of what he posted almost a year ago. Just way more -- polite. ]

That being said - I am going to give the same opportunity that I gave when I first arrived:

I am not a Monster. I am a deer who happens to be a witch. I never saw a human before getting here. And I have ten fingers and five toes.

And, if you have any questions, it's okay to ask, I promise. I don't bite. No question is too weird at this point, I think.

You said there were other animals like yourself back home, didn't you?

I did. Of a variety of species, too. Carnivores, such as lions, herbivores like myself. We live side by side, even.

How have you found your first few weeks here?

[ Carnivores living side by side with animals they typically would be eating is ... not so easy to wrap one's head around. He definitely wants to ask how that works. ]

It's been ... mostly peaceful. I don't get a lot of this back home. Still getting used to not being thrown into the fray so often.

[Never heard of someone having an odd number of toes before without losing one. It's dry though, she's seen too much to be really surprised by it.]

Yes. Not too long before I got here a year ago, I lost part of my right leg in an accident.

So - I have five toes. Only the ones on my left foot now. It happens.

Wow!!! Thats so cool!! Are you popular with Fauns?? It must be really super weird seeing a bunch of humans who kinda have animal features but dont really look like animals, even after all that time!

I'm not any more popular with faun than anyone else, to be honest. It was weird to see humans at all. I hadn't seen one before getting here, either.

I think to fauns, I'm more like a long lost cousin. Similar to humans and primates.

I mean... there are talking animals back home. Some even have human-like proportions, and live for centuries. It's just that your average layman doesn't know they even exist, since they keep to themselves for safety.

...Deer with fingers are very much a novelty though, as far as I've seen. But it'd be far more difficult if you didn't have them, right?

Oh. My "anniversary" should be pretty soon too, come to think of it. If I make a cake for myself, I'll share...?

I mean, I can't blame them. I know humans hunt and cage animals in some worlds. I can't speak for yours, of course, but when that happens we're gong to be smart.

Doing things would be much more difficult with hooves. Even simple things like using these devices.

And you don't have to share, I'm mostly teasing on that front.

Or maybe I'd have to bake two since there's two styles, the Taiwanese and the Japanese style, that I know of.

I don't know what Japanese or Taiwanese are, but we do have cake.

[Well, this is certainly a very different type of person than he's used to seeing. At first, it seems a little creepy, but considering how many monsters and other people who are very different from him in the month or so since he arrived, it's easy to accept after a few confused moments.]

Mostly I'm trying to master the magic here, since it's different from at home. But I've heard a bit about familiars. Do you know anything about that?

Well, I've personally never had a familiar. Pets were a pretty foreign concept to me before arriving. What I do know is that they are a decent substitute for awhile, but probably not a permanent solution. And, there are places around where you can obtain pets that serve the function of familiars.

[ How odd. But, all things considered, nothing Howl can find shocking at this point. ]

After a year of study, you must be a relatively accomplished witch at this point. Did you choose a class to specialize in?

[rightfoot]

Very good at some, not as much at others. I specialize in evocation, but I am also good at enchantments. It's fun to combine the two skills and work on developing something that is uniquely my own.

I've gotten better at abjuration and divination, but there's a little bit left.

I want to have a bit of everything, though. I feel like after I got good at one, it's been a little easier to learn the others, because while the details are different, the focus needed is similar, and I can apply what I've learned.

Are you happy to have this sort of anniversary?

I live with a good cook, who would ultimately do it if I asked. Even if he said he would not at first.

Yes, and no. It's been a year long vacation, almost. I've ha the chance to learn new things and meet people, well - humans, when I never would have before. So ultimately, I don't hate this anniversary.
