I was just wondering if anyone here could teach me a song they know from home. It can be any song, but I promised someone that I would learn one for her. And as I'm not going to be moving any time soon, it seemed to me that now would be the best time. Isn't that right, Sumo?

[He gets absolutely no acknowledgement from the dog.]

Don't worry, I would only have to hear it once. I have a very good memory.

[And maybe people could use a little distraction from whatever that dream was.]

Well, I won’t know what song I want to hear until I’ve... heard it. If that makes sense.

[So although the SQUIP knows an infinite number of songs, Connor can’t pick one.]

I do like heavy metal... but I like a lot of other music, too.

[He remembers his real name, but he also recalls that he'd rather not be called by that.]

I wouldn't want to sing her something too sad. So maybe something more cheerful.

[Ah, wait- he'd almost forgotten that Connor was looking for something to sing to a lady. Drinking songs are firmly off the list- as are, he now realises, the ones from his own period. Maybe expecting Connor to master Old Irish for the sake of a single song is too much.

It's a good thing, really, that his last summoning gave him a little chance to learn some slightly more modern ones. One of them's even from the same century as his last Master. Amazing.]

Hmm. The bolder songs are never as melodic. [nice save] My Lagan Love, maybe?

[He'd be happy to hear some of those drinking songs anyway. He's not going to sing them all to Caren, after all.]

Is that so? [Justine's voice takes on a light air of teasing as she addresses Connor.] Are you trying to make me jealous Connor?

[She isn't but that doesn't mean she can't tease him about it. Teasing is a natural response for Justine and as always, it brings a smile to her lips.]

As for songs, I don't know too many off the top of my head. I could maybe sing for you but I'd rather do it in person and I might also not want you to share them. [She's stalling because the only song that she's currently remembering is Elton John which is hardly helpful.] You should also probably be careful singing to people. I'd have for a crowd to show up while you were singing for your girlfriend or me if we're both home. [They live very close together.]

I've actually found that singing in my usual state doesn't attract people. It apparently makes them toss coins my way, though. I'd be tempted to do it just for that.

[Look, he really likes shiny coins.]

That's good to know. [Both for her own sake and his.] Do you enjoy being a street performer? I could make you attire to match if you'd like. [She's very much enjoying her time sewing and she'd like to make something nice for him though she doesn't know what styles he'd feel the most comfortable in.

[Justine pauses thoughtfully.]

It was more of an accident than anything, but I wouldn't mind performing for people if they enjoyed it.

[He'd rather play an instrument, though.]

It's from "A Fistful of Dollars". One of the best films ever made. I traveled to Italy to see it not too long ago.

I've never heard of it, but I haven't heard of many films admittedly. I'd like to watch it, though.

I think so, but we give him a lot of baths and only walk him in the early morning.
